Marathon GPQ Maraglo - Simplicity at its best!

I've been looking for a field watch since quite some time now. While a Hamilton Khaki field is the target, with a budget of under £ 200, I started looking at other options.

I was looking at a simple, functional no-frills type of watch & I came across the Marathon GPQ series. With the black Friday sale kicking in and also first-time buyer discount, I took the plunge and ordered the black GPQ Maraglo version on the official Marathon Watches UK site. It cost me £ 147, and they also gave a free Toque! That was a really nice gesture from Marathon. All in all, I think I got a pretty good deal.

Coming to the watch, it's exactly what I wanted! Yes, it's small, but it was designed as per mil-spec and for a purpose. It takes a day or 2 to get used to the small size, but then it actually grows on you.

It's extremely light, comfortable, super legible and has brilliant lume. Also, because of the size it fits nicely with the multiple layers of clothing to face the UK winters, especially jackets!

Overall, I feel the watch is extremely true to itself and an amazing no-nonsense watch that you can wear all day long. It's very robust and I'm sure it's here for the long run :P

Of course, I will go back to a Hamilton someday. But for now, this little marathon gives me the happiness I was seeking with a field watch.

I think of Marathon every time I try to convince myself that I need a field watch, and the GPQ Tritium is my choice. But then I remember that I already own two square G-Shocks and the Marathon MSAR and I push the idea to the back of my mind until the next time.

When you say it's small. What are the specs? I was the same way about Hamilton. And my budget was the same. Looks good congrats.

Thanks! The case size is 34mm and the lug width is 16mm. The Hamilton Khaki mechanical is 38mm and 20mm comparatively. So, you can estimate how much smaller it would be. But like I mentioned, you get used to it in a day or 2. At least I did :)

I considered a GPQ, but ended up going with the Navigator instead. You can't beat Marathon when it comes to no nonsense field/dive watches.
