Help! I am so confused :(

So I am looking to buy a field watch. Not really for fighting in the army or going hunting, but more to wear at the gym, swim (pool, not sea), run grocery errands ... just casual everyday stuff. I have a long list of requirements:

  1. 40 mm tops, 37-39 preferred

  2. NATO, not bracelet. Perhaps leather. Hard to get good straps easily in my country

  3. Automatic, but could consider quartz/solar

  4. Titanium heavily preferred (but is untreated grade 2 really more scratch resistant???)

  5. Black or green dial

  6. Inexpensive (<400 $)

I know ... i'm picky :(

The best match so far seems to be Boldr. But i've seen a few comments wrt qc issues.. Does anybody here have any experience with them?

Could also consider Citizen Garrison on a leather strap. Dumb question - is "super titanium" really titanium, or coated steel, or coated titanium?

Or the Seiko flieger? Steel, but strap.

But I hate the 3 o clock date window in the Seiko and Citizen :(

Other options? Pls suggest and help out a noob!

Timex Expedition North Titanium automatic is 41 but i think is a great watch

I was going to suggest Boldr. I think they’re Venture line are fine and should suit you. If you’re okay with quartz there’s also Bertucci that make nice quartz titanium field watches. Maybe also take a look at the Timex Expedition line. Those are the first ones to come to mind other than RZE but they might be a bit out of budget.

Take a look at boderry voyager, it’s a pretty good watch with lot of reviews, I ordered one and I can’t wait to try it in person

·

Titanium is nice, but unless you're super into it, I'm not sure I'd make it a massive priority for a field watch on a strap. It's likely not going to be very heavy in steel anyway, and there are so many more options in steel. If you really want it, go for it. I just wanted to say that I wouldn't recommend counting steel out in this context.

Bertucci. It’s quartz, but a dang fine watch. Mine is Ti with sapphire. 200m WR. And cheap. Everything on your list except automatic

This is on amazon. It’s the A-2T. Listed for $235 US. Not sure if you can look that up where you are. Just make sure it’s the Ti with sapphire and 200m 👍

Or 36mm

Consider citizen tough, definitely an upgrade from citizen garrison

Great specs, 200m wr and solid solar movement

The other option is to hunt for an icon, which is Hamilton khaki field which has a real military history from WWI. It’s not to far from your budget or you can search for used. I personally love mechanical movement , there is something romantic in this winding and it is a reminder of the watch field and historical background. It is also 80 hours power reserve so mine is like always running even though i rotate it with other watches. And let me tell you, this one is a strap monster!

Although it doesn’t meet the brief - maybe one to be aware of.

Nite MX10 39mm. Tritium lume

4yr battery life. Swiss Ronda 715 movement

Or 36mm

But is not the same watch the one you show is Quartz and it does not have the screwed crown and water resistance of 200m it seems to me

·

If you’re not picky about brand name, you could check out the Lorus Titaniun watch. Ben’s Watch Club has a good review of the cream variant but there is also a black one which is much less popular but looks quite the stunner with its matte black dial (this seems to be quite rare since most budget watches use sunburst for whatever reason).

Otherwise, you can go a step up and go with a Lorier Falcon 3 - perhaps more an adventure, think Rolex Explorer, watch than a true field watch but still solid. Or a Vaer.

Yes you are correct. It is Solar 100m 36mm version. With screw down crown

I have a boldr venture - it is amazing. Very light weight and great water resistance. No quality issues whatsoever. I got mine new for under 320 EUR. IMO there is no better field watch in this price range.

The Citizen Eco Drive meets all but 1 of your specs as it has a date window, but other than that, it is the complete Tool Watch, IMO. Mine in a NATO strap and BANG!

Factor the Momentum Solar Atlas into your thinking, plenty strap options at purchase.

Also available in black. They also make straps.

Hamilton seems over your budget, so, if you don't mind a "clomage" watch, San Martin has great-quality versions of the Tudor Ranger and the Hamilton Khaki Field for less than $270 - they contain the NH35 automatic movement. The Hamilton clone is the SN0137-G for only $158 and has a sapphire crystal with AR coating (which Hamilton sadly lacks), is 38mm, and has a great-quality nylon strap that looks as good as Hamilton's (I don't have this model, but did get a couple of the straps, which are great). I do own the Ranger clomage, SN0107-G, which was surprisingly-good quality - there are several variations in colors and even a higher-beat SW200 (ETA clone movement, making it a little more expensive) - in 38mm or 36mm, AR coating, $268, and a great steel bracelet that I switch out with the above nylon straps made for the SN0137-G (and one-pass straps from Crown & Buckle).

I have two Hamiltons and, while they are better quality and I really like them, it frustrates me that this homage company beats them in some areas, like AR coating, and is significantly cheaper.

38mm

Hi beat quartz

$40

Most worn in the collection.

IDGAS that it says invicta.

They go for around a $100 if you can find one.

Came here to say "have you watched that 80 dollars titanium lorus on Amazon?" And here is your post. Fantastic on the wrist. Nice catch.
