Congratulations @Arlington.Beech ! 🙌 I also have Hamilton khaki field mechanical and I am also wishing to upgrade one day for IWC mark. Fortunately/unfortunately my hammy is still fine :D
I personally like to have a polishing with this simple dial, to make it little less tooly and just tad
more flashy. I love IWC Mark XX and Laco is offering something similar but for substantially less money. Just and idea to add for all of the above, depending on what u like.

The other option is to hunt for an icon, which is Hamilton khaki field which has a real military history from WWI. It’s not to far from your budget or you can search for used. I personally love mechanical movement , there is something romantic in this winding and it is a reminder of the watch field and historical background. It is also 80 hours power reserve so mine is like always running even though i rotate it with other watches. And let me tell you, this one is a strap monster!

Yea, and I heard few times that IWC’a don’t hold the value… from my experience even 15-20 years old Mark’s are like 70% of AD price. At this point it seems pointless to look for used.
The SM300 diver example was really not greatest 🤔. If you look for automatic and regular man size than prices are also high even for 20 years old.
But I get your point and I admit its validity. Thank you 🙏
