Casio makes good watches, but it's always a good idea to branch out a little. Timex has been around for a long time, and there is a reason for that longevity.
My very first ever watch hundreds of years ago - I'm old - was a Timex imitation diver as I wanted to have the same as my old man's Rolex Sub - which he bought for work as a proper diver in the North Sea - that wasn't happening so I got the said Timex as a present from my grandparents.
I loved that watch, no idea where it is now, however, I don't feel Timex have really moved on since the mid 70s and I will always see them like that. I know they have but personally I see them as old hat and stuck in the past
I won't actively buy one regardless of how 'good' they are trying to be now, that's my issue but I can't be alone thinking that, I wish them the very best but they always seem to be a day late and a dollar short until very recently.
But it's HIGHLY model-dependant. Generally, Timex is great at 70€+ analogue watches (Weekender, Standard, Waterbury, Expedition...Q, Harborside...Marlin, Galli). Also: INDIGLO. You don't expect an el. back light on an analogue.
Casio does the dirt cheap ones well and it does the best digitals, hands down. And they go all the way up... Also, Multiband 6 and various other functions.

My score: 2 Casio, 1 Timex.
If you want cheap, but capable, go Casio.
If you want a bit more charm, go Timex.
