Is 9F misalignment acceptable to you?

Bought this SBGX261 from Chrono24 used in fair condition and the seconds hand is misaligned from 7->3. At the 12 mark the seconds hand pretty much lands on the left edge of top part of the index instead of landing in the middle like it should. Just wondering if this is an acceptable flaw for you guys, or would you go for a return? I paid $1075 on it and it is my first grand seiko.

Would return.

That’s a really good price for that. Can it be corrected with a service? Even with the price of service it seems like you still got a great deal

Price of service would be $450 at which point it goes into “brand new from Japan” territory lol

·

I would return, this is not acceptable GS standard

I Got a gs quartz from a gs boutique here in the philippines. It was also my first gs. Not all tick marks were hit by the seconds hand dead center. I also felt slightly disappointed by this but decided to keep the watch anyway. It has my birth month serial number by request and i was happy enough that they found it for me. I can hopefully get it aligned when it comes time for servicing.

If it helps to me it looks evenly missaligned on all numbers. If it bothers you too much just return it as it will never go out of your mind

·

Wouldn't bother me in the slightest 👍

·

Return for sure, that would kill the watch for me 😭 dont mind it in swatch but would expect something better for HAQ GS

·

I am sorry you have to go through this. I would not accept it, however you paid pretty low price for that GS.

·

All the quartz watches (GS included) that i handed have this issue 🤣🤣🤣

I had an Oceanus T200 before this and it had perfectly lined up seconds hands

·

Tough call, but I think I’d return it - it’s hard to unsee what you’ve seen. Good luck

That’s great, i never seen any quartz watches that perfect align so I choose digital quartz and mechanical 🤣🤣🌚

·

No

·

Looks normal; I have a GS 9F and it doesn’t bother me.

·

I have never seen a GS 9f not hit its markers, I'm tempted to say it's been messed with.

I have two and they are perfect, GS pays a lot off attention to there watches and are hand assembled, and qc'd multiple times, that not how it would have left GS

·

Good price, looks alright, if bothers a lot -- as long as you got no problem with accuracy -- would try local watchmaker to reset the hands. Just to get you to the point where you would satisfy

·

Same was on my sbgx261. AD sad that it is normal. I saw a lot of GS 9F with this problem.

·

Perhaps that’s why it was such a good deal. Personally a grand Seiko should nail the markers. I thought that’s what it was designed to do. I’d try to get a service on it.

·

*laughs in spring drive*

...

I kid but if it were me I'd probably see about getting it adjusted. I wouldn't think it would be difficult for any watch specialist...

·

That’s a great price. I’d be happy if the hands worked at all !

·

I do believe the Grand Seiko full service would correct this issue.

I think any Misalignment issue on a Grand Seiko should not be acceptable if purchased new.

Would it have possibly been covered by warranty ?

Lovely watch - I’d just enjoy it

I don't believe in the myth of perfectly aligned seconds hands in the long term, no matter what a few true believers say. It is close and consistent. You're free to have some guy open it up and nudge the hand a tad, but it's a hand-fitted friction fit that gets jolted literally every second. Only so much is possible.

I have several quartz watches that are far better aligned than this, and they cost less. I think it's worth checking into.

·

Look, I get irritated with any quartz that's misaligned once you get past say, $175.

I'm assuming the seller didn't note this, or you wouldn't have purchased it. Precision is sort of the whole point of this brand, so I think you've got an argument that you had a reasonable expectation of alignment absent such a warning.

·

I have a relatively cheap Citizen Blue Angels 'Nighthawk' which misses the seconds markers. It does irritate me a little. I noticed it too late to reasonably return it. Similarly to how the Grand Seiko here is described, my seconds hand doesn't miss the markers at a constant distance around the dial. Am I being naive to think therefore it would be impossible to have correct alignment ever even after adjustment? That's something I have thought must be correct and has put me off attempting to realign the hand.

·

You made a good purchase. Totally within tolerance. Especially for a used watch that is well below retail for a new equivalent replacement.

·

I have some Casio watches that aren’t misaligned and hit right every time, they were only $21, so for this price…..I expect precision.

This post is triggering my OCD. Return immediately.
