Any Japanese watch (micro)brand to recommend?

I'm currently living in Japan and will be at least 2 more years, and I want to buy a watch in Japan to commemorate my life here!

I'm looking for microbrands, not Seiko/Casio/Orient/Grand Seiko since I already have some of them or already love them :) plus, they can be found relatively easily outside Japan. So microbrand it is!

Some conditions(not an absolute deal breaker tho) are:

-made in Japan

-automatic or handwound

-budgets are ~$2000

-prefer dress&dive watch

Saw few vids on YT and "Kuoe" and "Kurono Tokyo" caught my eyes but I'm not 100% committed yet. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!!

If you search #japanesewatches you should find a good number of posts on this topic.

Kurono Tokyo takes the win for me but might be tough to find some specific models… Give it a look to Knot, they have interesting pieces: https://en.knot-designs.com

Best wishes for your time in Japan!

ooh thanks! I'm new to this community so tag-searching didn't come to my mind. Thanks for your time :)

wow lovely dial indeed. esp "Japan Concept" might be great for reminiscing about my time here. I'll look into it! Thanks and wishes the best for you too.

I just bought an aquatico watch and in my opinion it's what a seiko should be, bracelet is very high quality, uses an NH35 movement and doesn't feel cheap or chincy at all and i couldn't be happier

Fellow Japanese resident here, I’d also like to buy a Japanese microbrand. Really Kuoe and Kurono seem to be the only options (I didn’t know Knot), the few other ones (Kikuchi Nakagawa, Naoya Hida and Hajime Asaoka) are essentially handmade pieces in the 50k+ USD range

You bet, as soon as I get my tax refund I'm ordering another to add a "hulk" bezel to my collection lol

Exactly! Knot seems like great alternatives for Kurono but what I want from them is already sold out🥲 so I think I would wait for next Kurono's design & release date.

It's always a pleasure to meet fellow Jap residents! Cheers from Tokyo!🍻

There is a brand I found that looks interesting. It’s called Knot.
