Omega Constellation

The watch that started it all. My great grandfather (apparently a very interesting and well traveled guy) bought many Omegas in the 50s in Germany on his travels. He bought them mostly for his family but also some friends.

Naturally they were passed down and along the way my grandfather’s house burned down with all of the watches his dad had bought. They were all destroyed - except this one.

I eventually inherited it. Broken, missing a crown, but still functional. I eventually got curious enough to start researching what it would take to repair and I quickly found myself in over my head but no less in love with watchmaking. And this moment is what propelled me on a path to become a watchmaker and start Orion. Wonder if this still would have happened if that fire claimed this watch as well.

I love those kinds of watches that have a personal connection to your family. What a watch to look back upon and think about your grandfather and the start of your journey.

I absolutely love this!! Is that a ref. 2852? It looks exactly like the watch that my grandfather gifted to my dad (his son-in-law) upon passing the bar! For a man of meager means who worked three jobs to give his family what he didn't have growing up and sending his kids to the best schools, it was one of his most precious possessions, and recall my dad wearing that watch proudly to work every day. It's in far worse shape than that at the moment, sadly, but I'm waiting to receive it from home so I can have it fixed/restored in the USA where parts are more available. I may just hit you up for that!! 😊

I have a similar one. Circa 1956 or so. Yours looks to be gold. I think I like your hour markers better.

Beautiful story and watch!

Lovely watch and story. This looks a lot like the Constellation I posted on WRUW earlier today. I think this is a treasure and would be well worth servicing.

A beautiful watch with a great history. Whatever it costs to get it working and wearable again is money so much better spent than on any new watch.

·

great story and great watch ! similar story behind the bumper automatic “47 I inherited . I was a few years into my watch collecting then but had no vintage piece in my box yet ( bought another since ) . It Was passed on to my mother when he passed away and I found it when she passed away .

Salute !
