Date Complications

I have a few quartz watches with date complications. I have a couple of automatics with them as well, but I don't keep them constantly wound, so they're not an issue.

If I'm on my game, and know I won't wear the watch again until the next month, I'll flip it over early. Or I'll remind myself to reset them all when I have a date complication on in the new month.

It seems like no matter how disciplined I try to be, I can be all over the place. Meanwhile, I've seen some watch enthusiasts do it at the first of the month like clockwork - no pun intended.

However, I was curious as to how everyone else handles those months with under 31 days.

When do you change the dates over?

I only wind and set a watch when I'm about to wear it.

Don’t really think about it until I wear it. And even when I wear it, sometimes I don’t bother with the date if it doesn’t have a quick date adjust.

·

I set time and date when I put a watch on. It’s never occurred to me to try and preempt it.

·

I don’t set the date. I don’t use it so there’s no point in it for me personally 😁

·

I have waaaaay too many watches to keep up with the dates. I always change upon next wearing.

·

E: Set it only for a WRUW post.

Don't set mostly. Vintage watches are a pain to roll around a full month.

·

I only set my watches when I intend to wear them.

·

Same as the homie above, I just set it when I wear it unless it’s not got quickset- then I’m not setting it at all lol

·

None of the above, prefer no date watches & it's small enough to ignore on my others 😉👍🏻

·

I set my quartz watches on the 1st if there has been less than 31 days otherwise I just set my mechanicals next time I wear them.

·

Next time I wear it I’m a busy man! 🤣

·

Sometimes I may wake up on the first and feel like setting a bunch of them while I have my morning coffee. Sometimes I’ll just wait until I want to wear them individually.

·

I change everything at once, precisely on the 1st (or when the hours roll back, etc.). It's irritating for sure - the quartz subset of my collection is still a couple dozen watches - but I would rather get it all done and then know whatever I'm grabbing will be accurate. To that end I'll also adjust any that are significantly drifting.

·

Sometimes never- if I could remove the date window from all watches I own I would… pesky date windows throw off the dial symmetry.

·

I have a couple of automatic with date, but I never set the date, I check it on the phone if I need too, my eyes are no longer what they used to be anyway.

·

Which is why I love my Seiko GMT Perpetual Calendar quartz. As for the rest, I don’t bother with the date. Unfortunately (or fortunately) my lifestyle doesn’t afford me the luxury of waking up not knowing the day and date.

Non sequitur: I read a while back that societies without clocks lived longer. Probably dead by now though.

@oddsocks changing the dates is kind of my task every end of the month/start of the month, depending on which one is achievable, so now the watches under my radar of future purchases will be dateless 😂😂, Thank God for the gshocks, and my dateless watches (auto and quartz)cos i dont need to adjust the dates, cos i kind of have to is problem looking at watches with incorrect dates 🤦🏻‍♂️

·

I find the day complication to be completely unnecessary. I won't buy any watch that has it. Date is a lot more useful.

The one that really gets me are digital watches that don't have years in them, so every leap year, I fail to notice when those digitla watches don't take that into account.

I see, i didnt realize that its like that for digital watches that does not have years, as all the digital/halfdigital watches I have now is only my gshocks and apple watch, but tq for the info 👍🏽👍🏽

Yes, usually they're on the cheaper end. I know the Casio 218H has to be corrected on leap year, and I think the f91w is another one.

I do the same with my automatics

Haha, I always forget until it happens which throws off whatever date I've been writing. Last time it took me a week to correct 🤣
