Watch for the gym

Hi Crunchers,

I'm currently looking for a small, light and robust watch for the gym. Nothing fancy, only need it to know the time and time some exercises. No smart features or anything like that required.

Up until now, I've been wearing my Sinn 556i (built like a tank, super legible), but I feel the gym might not be the best place for that kind of movement in the long term 😬

First thing that comes to mind is a G-Shock, however, I haven't owned a G-Shock since I was 13, so I have no idea which one would be suitable and how the plastic of the strap handles sweat?

Second thing would potentially be a Citizen Ecodrive, don't know if there are any models specifically made for that environment.

Any other ideas?

What do you guys and gals wear to the gym?

Any recommendations or experience?

To me personally it’s just a gshock. Really no other watch seems to fit.

·

What ref no. is that? (sorry, G-Shock novice)

Luminox makes cool stuff if you don’t want digital. Once you get home just take it off and rinse it in the sink.

A Casio F-91W will do. Smaller and lighter. You can't bash it into things quite as much, but the size means you won't accidentally do so as much either. I'm unaware of the resin being affection at all by moisture or salt, but you're free to replace it with a NATO or something.

A Casio (G-Shock or not) would seem like the obvious choice. However, many of them come on resin bands which - for some people - cause a rash when they sweat heavily when wearing them. If there's a risk that that could be you, some other possibilities include:

1) Wearing a Casio with a metal bracelet. One with cheap folded links would probably be ideal, because - while not as impressive to watch nerds - they are very lightweight. The Casio a168w (or any similar model) would do the job.

2) Get a simple lightweight watch with a timing function and replaceable straps, and put it on a perlon strap. Perlon is very light, very comfortable, and very "breatheable" so sweat shouldn't be an issue. I like the Baltany flieger chronographs, but there'd be plenty of other options with similar price and features.

Cool, will look in to Luminox. Any smaller options with them as well?

Yeah, have had the F91W in the back of my mind as well the lack of WR could be an issue I feel. Have you had any experience with that?

Timex Ironman, Flix Reissue, or Atlantis.

If you want the big style without G Shock Pricing, look at the Marathon GPD. Very affordable, very unique, very tough, also very on the larger side. But I love it's simplicity and easily readable screen. Also has fantastic nighttime glow.

Timex Ironman, the one you can pick up at like target. The chronograph and countdown come in really handy. I don't really run, I just kinda saunter around, but if I did the Ironman would be my go to choice. The digital expedition is a good watch too, but slightly less features. Whatever g Shock is a good move too, specially if you get one on sale.

Yeah I have a black leather back sea turtle small which is a 39 but super light and there is a 44 with more colors. I wear it for all of my saltwater/freshwater fishing trips and it’s been great for 6 years.

I want one of those! Countdown timer that turns into stop watch is a dream complication of mine.

Apple Watch 😅 I don’t go to the gym but when I play basketball for exercise I rock two watches on of which is always my Apple Watch to track heart rate and calories. The other watch is to get the glare in the defenders eyes 👀

I showered with my F-91W once to prove a point, but they are notorious for people misunderstanding the water resistance rating and regularly swimming or showering with them and complaining a few months later when they fail.

There is a dude on here who has live video and pics of him diving with his F-91W.

Granted he doesn't manipulate the buttons 😂.

One more option, prolly the cheapest TBH, but realize it's also fairly big lug to lug. However it is truly the definition of a "throwdown" watch. Come in fun colors too.

CountyComm SOPMOD Throwdown. Funnily enough the strap they come on is legit and worth almost as much as the watch head 😂. Titanium 20mm, RAF single pass.

I have a Galaxy watch, but can't be bothered with the constant charging and the fragile feel of it 😬

Would like something I can throw in the bag and not worry about, plus don't really need any calorie or heart rate tracking atm

As far as I've heard, it's a hit or miss, since Casio doesn't guarantee more than 3bar.

Some people seem to have super resistant watches, others break when the air humidity is too high 😂

Such a cool looking stealthy watch. Hows the legibility on the your black version?

It’s pretty good and great loom, the only time it’s not great is low light between lume and no loom.

A simple Casio all the way, does all you need in the gym for pennies and it won’t mind you clanking it about. Good little work horses Casios.

·

casio aw 158

Still undecided, have an A158WE incoming, but have a shopping cart full of options if it#s not the right one 🤑
