2 of my favourite things

As an Oris BCPD fan boy and a lifelong cricket fan, if ever a watch was made for me it could be this one. Maybe I'll trade up one day!

I know the view on bronze watches is mixed (and I do understand why), and I am biased of course, but is the Big Crown Pointer Date the watch best suited to Bronze? I think it is, but happy to be proved wrong!

Love love love bronze material. Totally into the material patina over time. On this big pointer it’s a home run for sure. I do however feel that I wouldn’t want to put to many bronze watches in my collection. 2 maybe 3 Max why? Idk it will feel a little tacky for my taste

Or should it be "hit it for 6" for the cricket watch? 😜

Couldn't agree more, one bronze case is plenty in a collection

Bronze is the best for sure 👏🏻🍻

One is enough for sure but I have a specific mod I’m making soon which would put me at 2 so you gotta bend the rule for me a bit here 🤣

Feels like bronze is the natural selection for this watch, especially the green and red dials match perfectly with bronze, not a cricket fan but big crown is my first love and grail as a watch enthusiast 🖐️

·

With an MSRP of 3,100 USD, I'd rather get a bronze BB or Stowa flieger...

I agree it is a bit steep for this watch, but I expect it will come down. I guess my question about the best bronze suited watch was not related to price, just simply which watch is best suited to bronze.

I like your suggestions but for me they don't celebrate the bronze case as well as the BCPD. I find with the BB the bezel insert is almost there to hide it.

Rules are made to be broken! Looking forward to seeing your creation 😁

I see your point, but the answer to "which watch is best suited to bronze" will always be relative. I was never a fan of the BB in bronze until I actually saw one on someone's wrist at the AD and struck up a conversation with its owner. It had developed a most beautiful patina which completely changed my mind. In my eyes, the Stowa flieger is another watch that looks good in a bronze case as it will bring a level of ruggedness and utility to the watch once the case begins to patinate.

Nice! I'll keep an eye out for these in the wild! Always interesting to have your view of something changed when you see it in real life 😁

Oris really knows how to make beautiful watches.

It’s near perfect, good choice ! 👍🏻

If you love cricket (as do I) then take a look at this brand who make a cricket specific watch.

For me, the Oris lands a little flat due to the price and size. I'd have l loved it if they had used the smaller case, and maybe making it more focused on cricket rather than just a caseback. But overall, it's better than nothing.

·

Size rules it out for me. A BCPD in 38 is perfection.

·

I love the Oris big crown…and this bronze one is beautiful!😻

·

Always liked the Pointer Date.

Interesting you say that, I like the simplicity of the pure white dial and the red pointer. Any more for me could get too much. Although, they could have included a red and yellow NATO strap as a bit of fun. (my brothers suggestion)

Shame you'd be put off by the size, I have a 40mm big crown and it doesn't wear too big, I think the size of the crown makes it look smaller. The 38 is a nice size though, the dials on those are lovely too. 👌

I’ve never understood the fascination with a watch case that turns green. What is the attraction? Is it that it reminds people of an old hard hat diver helmet?

It's a cosmetic thing. Also, you don't have to let it get to that point. There are things you can do to somewhat reverse the oxidation of the bronze, meaning you can clean it up a bit. Of course, it will continue to oxidize, so it'll require a little effort from the owner to keep it looking the way they want it to.

·

Love the way they look new….but the effort to keep it looking that way seems, I don’t know, not worth it to me

I think if it's turning green you're either living in a very harsh environment or you're doing something to accelerate the patina. Which I agree I don't understand that fascination.

My reason for buying the bronze big crown was to celebrate my grandparents. I was very fortunate to know all 4 of my grandparents, the last of which passed away last year aged 94 (conveniently he was also a cricket player in his day, maybe I really should get this watch?!). It would have been lovely if they had an heirloom watch to pass down, but that wasn't the case, so I decided to get something new. Bronze struck me as something that would have a vintage feel as the patina developed, I also like that the cathedral hands compliment the look.

So far I'm very happy with it, it's developed a light tarnish, a finger print here and there but nothing crazy. Some areas stay polished as they rub on clothes etc, it certainly develops character.

The Oris Big Pointer has a classic, vintage look. It's right at home on bronze. Just like how this Seagull Limited Edition 1963 looks; esthetically complimentary. The Hamilton Khaki Field is another I would say, bronze is it's ultimate form. IMO, of course.

My Oris choice for bronze

I tried this on when buying my BCPD because they didn't have one in stock and I wanted to get an idea of what bronze looks like in real life.

It's a lovely watch, the angled coin edge on the bezel is beaut 👍

·

I haven't seen this in person, but, from the picture, that strap makes the case color so much worse than it already is. 🤷

·

Bronze pointer-dates are fire!

·

Bloody love that watch. Suits me as I like cricket and the (I think) quite unique dial. Too expensive for me though.

They do look great when they're shiny like that. Do you clean yours up regularly?

I've only worn it for a week or so. The patina is in its early stages but I will be cleaning regularly if I don't like how it starts to look
