Omega Moonswatch Opinions?

  1. Hey everyone, hope you’re all well. I’ve heard from friends that the Omega x Swatch Moonswatch was a massive thing recently. I’m currently on holiday to the South of France and wondering what are people’s thoughts on it now that the dust has settled a bit. Is it worth me spending the rest of my holiday budget on it to add to the collection? Or only trendy enough to make a quick buck selling them. i believe they have all models! (Edit: last sentence was supposed to read only ”only trendy enough for swatch to make a quick buck selling them”

Get one if you find any of them cool and actually want one. Leave it for someone who actually want one if not?

·

Normally I'd buy one at retail, but I wouldn't sacrifice my vacation for it.

·

When they first came out, I thought for sure that I would go buy a few.  But, now that the hype has died down, I really don't feel any sort of pull to own one anymore.  I'd rather save up my nickels for something else that tickles my fancy.

I still think they're brilliant, though, and congratulations to the Swatch Group for such a miraculous coup.

I own and enjoy my older Swatch Irony, all stainless and awesome BUT, I still kinda feel the moonswatch is like the McRib of the watch community. Not hating but not really liking either, know what I mean??

·

i want to buy one too when it is first come out. but i remember using my old swatch doesnt made me happy because of the built quality, and apparently when i saw one of the @AdrianBarker video when his chrono pusher on his moonswatch fell off i didnt want to buy it anymore. but if you like it then you should go for it, but please dont buy it just to flip it

If I had a Swatch store nearby, I'd have bought one already.

Not the best spec'd watch for the price, but sometimes us watch enthusiasts don't follow the specs.

I still want one, but won't go out of my way (distance or financially) to get one.

Makes sense! was actually most interested by the mission to the moon one but was just asking whether the watch was a worthwhile buy. Should probably clarify that last sentence was not me asking whether I should resell them. Bad wording. Was more asking on swatches behalf whether they released them for a quick buck

Yeah I thought the opportunity the get one at retail would be good but south of France on a student budget has not been easy hahah

Hugely agree! i think I’ll go back into the store tomorrow to properly check them out (as it was closed today) to see what the hype was about but I’m not sure if reviews on quality persuade me enough to get one.

100% a historic watch for Swatch though!

Totally get you. From the shop window they look okay! But I have heard that swatch maybe be out for a money grab due to making a popular watch due to the collab and ultimately poor quality.

I get you! I watched a few vids on it when I got back to my hotel which didn’t persuade me to buy. I wouldn’t necessarily buy just to flip but my original question was just wondering whether the watch was only good for that (i have seen them sell for quite a lot over retail!)

Totally get you! I can’t lie and say they didn’t catch my eye but don’t think they have enough pull to make me ‘when in Rome‘ my way into buying one!

I do think they provide some fun factor, but you can get something that will last you longer for the same price. Hard decisions ☺️ I probably wouldn't buy personally

I picked up a Mission to Jupiter, and enjoy it.

They aren't spec monsters, and they aren't intended to be daily beaters. They are a fun occasional wear watch, that has the officially sanctioned Speedmaster shape in fun colours.

·

Ah can you buy one for meeeee, u got Venmo?!

·

Haha I’d say only get it if you want it, don’t follow the heard

I got a Swatch chrono a week before they came out for $60.00 new from Jomashop and would not buy another one even with the fancy name on it. I can get a steel mecaquartz vk63 on Aliexpress with sapphire for around $70.00 CDN with a steel bracelet. Even the Homage seamasters in steel are cheaper.

Yeah I definitely hear what you’re saying! The only watch I wantes is actually sold out so definitely not getting any! definitely cool looking though.

I get you! Unfortunately the mission to moon, which I was most interested in, is sold out :(

I think that they are fun and a super smart release from swatch. If you have the money to spare and you think you would want one, Go for it! The hype for me has died down alot, but I personally still hope to own one in the future, not because of the build quality or the name, but because of the history that it has created. Who wouldnt want the watch that made people trample eachother outside swatch stores for?

·

I have and enjoy my Mission on Earth model. there is a Swatch store close to my apartment in SF so popping in to check availability isn’t too hard and one day I was in luck. The strap is garbage so I swapped it for a color coordinated NATO and it’s great. It is somewhat fragile feeling and the crystal is a magnet for some small scratches but I’m ok with that. I don’t wear it often but I wanted one for the collection and sort of pop culture factor of it all. Now yesterday I walked back into that same store and they had a uranus, Venus, and Sun available and I opted out. I don’t think I’ll buy another but they’re fun toys of watches. Frankly for $280 (price here after taxes) there are a few other things I’d rather have than a second swatch. That being said I may end up with another someday.

My opinion on the moonswatch has changed over time. I see the idea of having a watch that offers the legendary design of the speedmaster at an affordable price.  My opinion has changed to not caring about it anymore as the hype and also #swatch marketing of sporadically releasing the watches to force people to periodically check the store, I find that annoying.  Swatch has ruined what would have been a great affordable Speedmaster for those who can’t afford one.  Just my two cents
