Hi, This is my very first post here. I have been looking at the forums for a while and today I decided to join. I have been collecting watches for at...
When I bought my GMT Master 6 years ago, the market was normal enough for me to get a 10% discount and free watch winder. I still got a "Congratulations" compliment so I don't think this has anything to do with the current Rolex scarcity.
The AD person simply assume acquiring a Rolex is an achievement for most people. It is most likely part of the sales training.

If the crown means brand recognition, I can't see it happening for at least the next 10 years. Rolex is a household name. Even non watch people know the brand. The vast majority of people recognize it. No other brand comes close.
Omega offers much better value, but the common buyer don't really put down thousands on a brand they have never heard of.
As it strange as it may sound, I think the Speedy (with the new slimmer bracelet) wears better than the AT 38. Maybe the tachymeter bezel helps to make it look smaller.
About GS, I love the specs and the dials, but the ones I like the most are just too big for me.
After trying many watches I came to the conclusion the Datejust 36 is the best fit for me. I am not in a hurry to get one, so I am waiting for "the call" from the local AD.
About the apparent large size on the picture. The best way to avoid it is to use your phone's telephone lens (if it has one). Hold the phone far from the watch and take the photo. The problem with most phones main cameras is they use wide angle lenses, so they tend to stretch the subject. Also this watch is "small" on paper, but it has a very slim bezel, so the dial is actually large. I have a small wrist and I had to pass on the Aqua Terra 38 because it looks big with that large dial.
