Poop or Scoop: PRX edition

After seeing many reviews, posts, and videos about the PRX, I must say there are a LOT of mixed reviews. whether it comes down to the Powermatic vs the Quartz, or the 40mm vs. the 35mm, everyone seems to have their own opinions on the watch, and everyone seems to have a pretty definitive stance.

What are your thoughts on the watch? Is it poop, or is it a scoop?

Here's my opinion: I think it is a scoop, and I plan on purchasing a couple of these soon. As a new watch enthusiast, and someone who purchases entry to mid-level watches for budget reasons, I see a lot of value in the PRX Quartz watches. They are pretty reasonable for the price of 300$, considering how nice they look and the quality of the watch. They have some nice dial colors that look very appealing to me, and I love the fact that it comes in 35mm, since I do have a smaller-sized wrist. Obviously, when it comes to value for your money, nothing will beat Casio in my opinion, but I definitely think $300 for a PRX is not a bad price. However, when it comes to the Powermatic PRX, is $700 worth it? I've never seen the Powermatic in person, and I don't know much about the movement to have my own opinion on it. Let me know in the comments.

the Powermatic 80 is a solid movement that hasnt given me problems in my Tissot or my Mido (Caliber 80) but what I dislike about the PRX is the oversaturation. With that said, Id consider the Chronograph version for its differences in both complication and use of "precious metals" otherwise my Frederique Highlife provides me with the integrated bracelet look, a COSC movement, and Its more likely to start a conversation. Add to that I got it for 50% off further solidifies my thought

People's opinions of watches are heavily influenced by the amount of money they spend on watches, and personal taste.

"Value" is a hard thing to gauge, because everybody values different things. With your example of Casio, I'd rather spend a few pennies more and get a Timex. I see more "value" in spending the extra few dollars for watches that appeal to me.

I dislike the whole integrated bracelet thing, so the PRX isn't for me. That said, being a Tissot it's going to be a well made watch at a good price when compared against similar quality watches.

I have 2 Tissot 33mm pr100 powermatic 80 watches and love them. They have the quality but not the dated design of the PRX. Originally I got them from Jomashop below the price of the movement cost as donor watches but they turned into favorites

What are some of your favorite Timex watches? And why do you dislike integrated bracelets? I dont think I own any watches with integrated bracelets, so I've never worn one to have my own personal opinion so far.

Yea, it does seem like everyone currently has or previously owned a PRX, but that doesn't really matter to me, I still love the way it looks, especially for that price it seems pretty nice

My favourite Timex is the Atlantis, I have been wearing them for decades now and they have never let me down. I currently own three of them, and will be getting a 4th when they go on sale again.

My dislike of integrated bracelets comes from my dislike of bracelets. I used to love bracelets, but then I tried quality leather straps, and Erika's MN straps, so now I dislike bracelets.

·

Scoop if it was a little cheaper, but I'm on a budget and so that sort of money is only available for the sort of watches that really really blow me away, and it just doesn't unfortunately, so a reluctant poop

definitely fair. for mechanical watches, at 7/800 dollars i'd rather get a vintage omega, hamilton, or even a used grand seiko

yea i love the way leather straps look and feel as well, but I still love my bracelets, especially if they are sleek and comfortable

I think its a scoop. The only negative aspect is the big overhang on the bracelet, other things are perfect

Ew that looks terrible lol.. definitely glad i saw this angle. That would drive me crazy every single time i wore it

Price is subjective when it's used to determine value for money. The powermatic at 700 is a cheep watch if you wear it every day for years compared against a quartz prx at 300 that you wear once.

My PRX pretty much stayed in the watch box after a few days of initial wear. I never liked the wearing experience, the bracelet is well-finished but I am not a fan of Tissot's butterfly clasp. It is overly curved and starts digging into the wrist when the wrists swell up, becoming very uncomfortable over the day and I had the same issue with the Getleman model I had before. You do have a few strap options recently which is a good thing. Mine unfortunately had a problem with the movement when I decided to give it some wrist time again and I had to send it for service a few months back, finally picking it up next week but it is on the cards to sell. Maybe I will pick up a gold or ice blue variant later.

One piece of advice if you are buying a quartz PRX, go and buy it in person. The second hand misalignment is quite common and in some cases worse.

Also, the Citizen Tsuyosa is a better value option than the quartz PRX. The dial colours available are much better plus the wearing experience is nicer.

Ok thats what i was thinking, i had just seen the Tsuyosa today and the yellow dial looked amazing.

The yellow is definitely the most popular. I'm picking one up when I find a good deal during some sale.

I do online shopping but it depends on the watches. If I am spending more than $500, I definitely want to see the watch in person. Or if I am not sure about how it will wear on the wrist, I go to try it on.

The Tsuyosa wears true to size but the PRX wears larger for a 40mm, integrated bracelets are never the same even if it is same size. So if you are not sure about the size, check it out in person before you end up buying it online or at a store.

Scoop.

Go for the quartz. For me the launch of 35mm model sealed the deal.

I downsized most of the autos in my collection because when I'm rotating watches in my collection, I have to wake them up and set the time invariably. Over the last two years, this put me off and even some of the auto watches I wore the most stopped getting wrist time.

PRX can be a dress watch if you want it but in true sense it is not and so I did not see any value in getting the auto version - only to wake it up and wear it during occassions.

Enjoying my prx every week. Truly a classic realunched and the quartz makes it extremely easy to own.

No nonsense multipurpose watch. Worth the price. Can't say the same about the autos. Not a fan of the waffle dials as well.

Basic #shotoniphone wrist shot. Clouds were the lightmen. The watch itself is photogenic. Just go for it.
