Q: How did you get into watch collecting?
My Dad has long been a 'watch guy' and I caught the bug fairly early...
Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?
I recall getting a Timex digital "bar watch"... it had a bar shaped button on the front, below the screen that made all the adjustments.
Q: Do you have a watch with a particularly interesting story behind it?
My Rolex Air King Date (ref. 5700). My Dad bought it for himself - the last thing he bought as a single guy in 1969...days before marrying my Mom. He thinks he paid about $150CAD for it. He gave it to me a few years ago, so he could see me enjoy it. And I do. It came with a white dial, it's champagne now. The dealer that services it said it's obvious my Dad wore and loved it from the colour change...and that change on their dials is what created the demand for Rolex to create champagne dials a few years ago.
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?
Buy and wear what YOU like, not what someone else tells you is cool, or nice, or "good"...and buy only what you can afford to lose.
Q: What is your grail watch and why?
The Rolex I have...because it was my Dad's. It's about the story, then the watch...
