Review of my new Vostok Amphibia 710916

Good afternoon Crunchers!

I have finally decided to write my first review, and today’s main character is Vostok Amphibia.

I recieved it yestarday in a hard plastic box, and warranty was the only thing there was besides the watch. Obviously warranty is Russian so I will never use it.

First impressions of the watch where “what a beautiful watch”, and a moment later “this is not 41mm”. The width of lugs makes it 41mm on the whole surface, so it’s pretty much square. It wear bigger than it is, and the crown is quite big too. Hopefully with a nato strap it will wear smaller, because I am mot sure it looks good on me.

As for the strap, it is rice links, 22 mm all along, I have never seen such a big strap. Weights a lot too. Coming from my daily Edifice with it’s 38mm and 8mm thick - this is a different world.

However, I love the design of this watch, I have never seen anything like it, the name, letters look great and neat on this black dia, lume is decent on the hands, dots on the numbers are not so good.

It is an automatic watch, and you can hand wind it, which for me sounds like a perfect combination! You can wear it daily and when it’s time to switch to your other babies you can just wind it in the morning, although as there are no complications - you could just set the time every time you pick it up.

I have heard stories of these watches being available for 70$ with shipment included, that’s definitely not the case here, I bought it from an intermediary, but I check the price on the official russian website and it was 108$, so me paying 135$ doesn’t see much.

Overall, I believe it is one of the best watches you can buy for the price, with real 200m water resistance, great in house movement and ready to be a workhorse for years!

Share your pictures and opinions on the watch, and let me know what else should I talk about when reviewing watches:)

Yeah, I got one for $70 a few years ago, but still a bargain at $135. Glad you’re enjoying it.

I believe it would be more because of the $ to Rub rate rather than the difference in price of the watch iself

Thanks taking the time to write this review! The only thing I would say is that I'm not sure the scoring is objective. Is this really a 5 out of 5 for quality for example.

I guess it would change with time, however, I don’t have anything to compare it to for now, I M just starting in the watch world. So for now I think it is fair to score considering the price, as I can’t compare with other brands? I doubt there are many watches that can compete in quality in this range and have the same specs, what do you think?

Good review of a great watch.

Vostok are definitely going up in price. I paid £50 quid including shipping from meranom to the UK in October 21 and the same amount for a Komanderski in February 22.

I'm presuming the ongoing war has pushed prices up. Whilst they still offer value they are not at present the bargain they have traditionally been!

200metres water resistance, as stated on the dial. There is a video of an Amphibia being pressure to destruction on youtube. It imploded at 800 metres. 😊👍

I think it’s more a lack of availability outside of Russia due to sanctions than the result of a strengthening Ruble. I can no longer access the websites of the Russia-direct sellers.

Regardless, $135 is still a good price, and they are robust, fun watches. Enjoy yours.

Maybe Chinese brands like San Martin or Murcur would offer better value. I appreciate you're new into watch collecting, I just think if you start off giving the 1st watch you review 5 out of 5 for everything, then you have nowhere to go score wise when you find a watch you think is better.

I think it’s a great topic to discuss in a separate thread, let’s see what other crunchers think and how they grade the watches they review!

Won’t be your last Vostok, like potato chips, can’t have just one. Not a spokesman but I’ve had great experiences buying Vostoks from Meranom in Russia, best prices and if you can wait out the 3-5 week shipping highly recommended. Welcome aboard this crazy Russian watches train!
