The versatility of the Moonwatch is underrated

It goes with anything, and can be dressed both up and down. Going to a birthday party tonight, and it pairs as well with a black shirt and dress pants as it does with jeans and a casual t-shirt.

What's your go-to versatile watch?

The moon watch is great! 🚀👏🏻

My go-to versatile watch is my Tudor Pepsi, and my Panerai is surprisingly versatile as a strap monster

Great and interesting choices! Strap monsters are perfect for versatility!

Yeah, a lot of the Moonwatch's versatility boils down to its monochrome colours.

Aqua Terra quartz

Just the job when poshed up, but I use it as my G-Shock when I don't want to risk my nice automatics.

Pretty much the ultimate GADA IMHO. Certainly dominated my wrist time, more out of convenience and the fact it's never inappropriate than preference. Great watch that I ended up with by accident 🤣💪

Great watch 😍

Thank you 😊👍🏻

I agree with you 100%, and this watch that I recently purchased is what made me realize the same points you made. Dress it up, dress it down, it all works!

Similar in style. Monochrome with a few more polished accents on the dial.

New to me so haven’t really applied it many settings yet, but think it’s pretty versatile

Image
·

Totally agree. It wears great, even on my small wrist. Dresses up and down. One of my favorites!

·

Or…dial color is striking but still works as dressy. 3, 6, 9 Arabic numerals keep it a bit sporty.

Absolutely. The Moonswatch is perfect for the all occasions. (Wishing I had one). The real one as the Moonswatch isn't quite the same. But in my collection I guess I would say the Bulova Jet Star.

I meant to say moonwatch. Not Moonswatch ! Hahahhaha.

The MoonWatch is by far the most versatile watch there is. Dress up Dress down Don’t dress iit does not matter. It is really at the pinnacle of what an everyday sport watch should be. Sure there are other watches out there but nothing compares to the Omega brand. You are immediately forgiven even if you are dressing wrong. Just my two cents.

·

Great choice. My whole collection has turned into do it all watches but probably my Rolex explorer II

Nothing wrong with that! There are so many great options in this hobby, so there's always something else that fits the bill.

Out of curiousity, do any of the other classic icons appeal to you? E.g. Submariner.

The Explorer does.

Design and function is for a purpose. I would say the same about dive watches. Something like the Aqua Terra that is designed to be a GADA fits the profile better IMO.

Gotcha! Form follows function and so on. I'm almost exclusively concerned with the aesthetics of a watch when it comes to pairing it with an outfit. In the case of the Speedmaster, I think the pushers are sufficiently anonymous to still make it a classy piece. While its dial is very cluttered compared to e.g. an Aqua Terra, its palette is clean. If I compare my Speedmaster to my Navitimer, the latter is significantly less dress-up compatible. I wouldn't wear the Speedmaster with a tuxedo, and it wouldn't be my preferred choice with a full suit either.

The Explorer does.

A very clean watch, especially the bezel compared to the Speedmaster and Submariner.

Do you like any dive watches and/or chronographs?

I like the BB54 and the Hamilton Intra Matic chronograph. Both vintage inspired.

Yeah, I can definitely see that! Any pictures? 😄

Can go sporty or dressy. I’m wearing it sporty in that photo. Also bought the jubilee bracelet to switch it up and go extra dressy

I think the jubilee + fluted bezel is one of the best and most coherent combinations out there. It just looks incredibly good overall.

My current most versatile watch is an Hamilton Jazzmaster Viewmatic .... More than 15 years old!!! I can dress it up and down as I want. Currently in a grey/White nato strap! Marvellous with its original H bracelet

What I've heard the most is the moon, moon, moon 😄 To me personally, it's the design. How well it's aged is remarkable. However I do feel its versatility is under-communicated (hence this post).

Maybe we simply frequent different communities if you have another experience!

Whenever people label a watch a “ Strap Monster”, which the Speedmaster is probably the archetype for the label, I see that as saying it’s highly versatile. Although some watches that are Strap Monsters only work within their category like dive or dress; the Speedmaster can go from sporty to dressy.

The design of the Speedmaster is definitely timeless like a lot of Mid Century design due to its no nonsense layout, the precise appearance of the sub dials, its font style and usage, etc.

Maybe I have been thinking about it the wrong way: I have thought that being a strap monster simply means that a watch goes well with a number of "shoes" so to speak, without necessarily implying that it can be used for a lot of different outfits/settings (ranging in formality from the beach to black tie).

Perhaps being a strap monster implies that the watch is versatile in this manner, too 🤔

Just saw this post - The reason I finally got my Speedy was for this very reason. I am also weird in that I think it loses a little of its versatility when on a strap. Don’t get me wrong, I think the watch looks stunning on any number of straps I have around, but for the ultimate “up and down”the wardrobe, casual to business wear to sweats and hoodies.. the speedy on a bracelet is literally perfection.. and also, call me weird (or reckless)..but I have no issue with getting it wet.. not swimming in it…but sure as heck not taking it off in wet terrain or conditions…it’s a beautiful beast

I sort of agree with regards to straps. Any strap can work in a given setting, but none are close to as versatile as the bracelet!
