80s vibes, Rolex Quartz

Yesterday I came across this 1987 Rolex Quartz Day Date. 18kt gold on an integrated bracelet, looking very similar to the 222. I believe it came before the president bracelet. Do we think Rolex Quartz will become collectables?

I bought the one on the left at an auction. My only vintage piece and my only piece not bought from an AD. Once it came back from Switzerland having a new lease of life breathed into it, I was able to truly appreciate what a beauty it is. definitely one that will never leave me so not too fussed on whether it will be worth more in future.

It was really cool to see with the different case and bracelet. It is a very cool watch.

With the 80s aesthetic and integrated bracelets coming back into style, Rolex Oysterquartz watches are very collectable.

That's very nice! I do like the look of that a lot. Sits well on your wrist 👍

Yeah I was thinking this could be coming back. Like I say it gives me VC 222 vibes with the case and bracelet. And I think investability Quartz will become collectable when that's becomes vintage.

I think anything with the Rolex name on it is collectible to some degree.  With the more popular models being unavailable to mortals, some of the previously less desirable models have become more popular.  I don't think anyone wanted the Milgauss, OP, or Airking 10 years ago, but prices are up and availability is down.

That said, never buy a watch as an investment.  Yes, some people have done really well the last few years, but it doesn't last.  I don't believe the Rolex market has collapsed, I think that's just something Youtubers are saying to get views.  But that's not to say it won't happen.

If you have the money and like that watch, buy it.  Worst case, you'll get your money back if you sell.  Even the least popular gold Rolex is still a gold Rolex.

You only have scan prices on Chrono24 to see the Oysterquartz is already very collectable.

The Oysterquartz has garnered a lot of attention in recent years as it had kind of been forgotten about but now people are realising what stunning designs they are - Rolex’s only integrated bracelet. Michael Caine had one which was auctioned recently.

If you look under the hood the movement is a real metal movement with engraved and finished plates, not bits of plastic.

If you like the integrated bracelet design but prefer a mechanical watch they did briefly produce an automatic in the Oysterquartz case -  the 1530.

Thanks for that! A really insightful comment, I really appreciate it.

I’ve got a champagne dial mechanical DD and a burr wood dial oysterquartz DD. Yours is the blend of my two (and maybe the better for it - much as I love the flex of the wood and I guess it’s worth more - you can’t beat the gold bar look!) -And yes very 222 - or indeed very gold Tissot PRX -ha!
