Silicone Saturdays

The silicone strap. One of the most underrated type of strap compared to other strap materials, or even to bracelets. Why is that?

Image
Image

Less glitter? Less polish or shine? Less attractive? Less versatile? More functional than fashionable? Simply less preferred? I'm sure we all can think of even more reasons why.

Image
Image

Thus, if ever one does wear a #siliconestrap, more often than not, it is relegated only to certain types of watches in our collection (dive watch being the most common), or on certain kinds of weather, or on specific seasons in the year (hello summer!). So by default, it's simply less worn.

Image

If ever it's worn a little bit more often, it's usually on weekends (since it's not as appropriate for work situations), or in more casual, sporty, or outdoor situations.

And, on more travel focused situations or vacation-y types of environments. That's quite understandable.

Image
Image

Underrated? Yes. Underappreciated? Most definitely, yes.

Yet undeniably, the silicone strap is still one of the most comfortable and reliable straps to wear.

Image

It's soft, supple, and hugs the wrist nicely. Yet, it's sturdy and strong.

Image

It's lightweight, unobtrusive, and goes unnoticed all day.

Image
Image

Yet it's reliable in all types of environments -- air, land, and water, and in all seasons, whichever hemisphere you are on earth.

So, just as there is a Blue Monday, a White Dial Wednesday, and a Green Friday, I think it would also be cool if we do a Silicone Saturday. 😎

Dare to dream!

I really love the look, utility and feel... Until it gets sweaty, then it's just a permanent sweat ring on my wrist. I tried them, but am weary.

Don’t know if you’re aware but try an oysterflex strap copy from Aliexpress, they have a decent clasp and I personally find them really comfortable. The oysterflex strap has ridges to keep the band off your wrist creating an air flow to reduce sweating, well I think that’s one of its purposes 🤔

Maybe worth a punt at £10.00 delivered

I understand, pare. Perhaps this Fall, it'll be less sweaty? Or is it all year round for you?

I love silicone straps. They sometimes pick up lint & dust but wipe off easily with the hand. SUPREMELY comfortable bands, IMO.

Silicone strap by Alpine with red stitching to match my Timex:

My beach/adventure watch, a Timex tide/temp/compass, has a silicone strap too, which makes it impervious to sunscreens, salt water, etc.

And my Winner beater watch has an Alpine silicone strap with yellow stitching to match the dial:

I'm definitely a fan!
