Today was a good day...

After many years of missing windup (I almost missed this year too 🤦‍♂️) I finally made it down and it was EPIC! While I can't compare it to the previous location, I have to say that this venue was incredible! Pretty decent options of eateries in the area, and within walking distance of Safeway which was cool.

Image

Right as you enter you're met with a small windup store and you get to talk to Kat Shoulders one of the photographers and authors at worn and wound. I used to follow Kat on ig when I used to be on it. That set up the tone for me as I was finally gonna get to see all these people I've only seen online.

They had watches from Vero, Boldr, and their collab with formex.

Image

Next up was the fortis "room" cause they had a pretty large sized area. I love their pilot watches! The gmt was titanium and it was so comfortable and it uses the Kenissi movement.

Image
Image

Next I stopped by oris cause to me iwc makes the best pilot's watches but oris comes in a close 2nd!

I had to stop by xeric cause if there was anyone who was in the #funktasticfriday group, it would definitely be these guys.

Image
Image

Finally got to try on the strat and it was 🔥🔥🔥 they hit a home run with this one.

Image

I really like the workhorse watches from vero, seeing them and trying them on in person was awesome.

Image

Then it was time to visit one of my primary brands to check out. I'm sure you all know resident cw ward specialist @mike55

Image

The first watch i had to try was the 39mm sealander gmt. I have always wanted this watch but was not sure about the 39mm size. I think I really like it!

Image

I wanted to see how it felt to be like my idol @WristCounselor so the dune gmt was the next one I had to try. 38mm shouldn't feel that much different from the 39mm sealander but it did feel and look "smaller" to me. Beautiful piece though I have to say.

Image
Image
Image

The aquitane and the twelve X ti are chef's 💋 for sizing at 41mm and that 12X is definitely next level watch status!

Image
Image

But to me, the epitome of c ward has to be the bel canto. This is on the very short list of watches I really want. I didn't get to hear the chime but this watch is epic!

Image

Hey this guy looks familiar...🤔

Image
Image

This laco is insane! I want one! 55mm of mclove'n! The guy told me they're all sold out and only make 10 pieces a year!

Image

Someone who setup this space must be on watchcrunch, because how else would you explain putting the 2023 micro brand champion right next to the 2024 champion!!!

Image

Up next was a visit to hometown mecca's topper's jewelers booth where I finally got to try on a doxa! A real live doxa!!! That beads of rice bracelet is really nice!

Image
Image

I was so happy that formex was there, the field is also on the short list of next watch purchases. That titanium sandwich dialed watch is super yummy!

Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

This French watch company was a surprise. I was shocked by their very affordable pricing and their watches felt really good!

Image

37.5mm.... THIRTY SEVEN POINT FIVE!!! this watch has no business looking this good on my wrist! Absolutely stunning dial!

Image

Glad to finally check out spinnaker. They're quality is pretty nice! I am really considering getting the CA dial Hull that's on sale.

Image
Image

This serica is everything and a bag of chips! Still one of the most beautiful divers I've ever seen.

Image
Image

I would be an idiot not to try on a lorier and so I did. Add that to the other 39mm that I fell in love with

Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

The citizen group brought out the BIG GUNS! Each piece truly amazing!

Image

All in all an epic day! I'm tired as hell and I'm ready to go to bed but it was totally worth it!

When I got home my wife asked me how many watches I bought and while I wanted all of them, I think there were so many that I could not pick any of them. It really was sensory overload and for a watch addict it was a lot to take in. Hoping to make it out to next year again! Thank you windup for hosting such a great event!

Same here, there was so much to look at and so little time. I’ll sleep on it for a few days before making any rash decisions. 🤣

In my head I spent about 30k 🤣

·

Yes, it was overload. But it was good to get the in person overview of so many brands and designs. I bought the Vera Workhorse, wearing it today, and I love it. I have a short of list of others that I'm looking at online.

·

For a second I thought I was on the newsfeed and I was thinking "man the feed is on fire today". Great shots👌

·

Great recap! Definitely some brands I’d love to get on wrist

I was there too and I loved it! Kept my eyes peeled for the WC folks like you that I see in my feed / wrist pics comments often but didn't recognize anyone :/

Thank you for your post and photos, really appreciated from us who could not be there in person!👌🏼

It was honestly my pleasure I can't wait to go again

Thanks for taking the time to put this together. As an east coaster who couldn’t make it, this was great to read.

You're welcome but the show will be headed your way so hopefully you can attend one of those

·

You're welcome Matt have a great day

It was a fun day for sure. I hope they have something like it for you in your country Dimi.

I hope so too 🙏

I had to ask if those were French prices 🤣🤣🤣 I was very surprised by those watches for the price. And like I said I was so overwhelmed by so many watches my head was spinning and I couldn't choose any SMH

Yea, especially considering the anti-shock protection and regulation.

Zombie brand or not, solid, well built watches, with some history thanks to Neil Armstrong and the Worldtimer.

Regulated, anti-shock, LHD, roulette date, countdown bezel, AND acrylic WITH internal cyclops, at a good price......be still my heart 😆😂.

Oh wow I went on Sunday too around 2pm

·

Awesome! Thank you for the report. Hopefully next year I can make it to the show. Cheers!

You're welcome I don't think you would be disappointed.

Chris, great photo-journalistic reportage. ❤️ it. Guess it's an obvious name, there seem to be a few namesakes!. Looks like a great expo. After seeing all those watches what were your top picks in the flesh?

Thanks James so if it were readily available and if they had one at the show to sell my absolute first choice would be a bel canto. The sericas are also even better in the flesh. I did ask them if they had any for sale but sadly they didn't. The furlan marri was surprisingly very nice but the watch that I'm kicking myself for not getting is the worn and wound vero workhorse collaboration because they did have those for sale. I may still order it is the first watch in the photos.

Makes all the difference to see watches in the flesh and try them on, with you on the Sericas. I guess I am a bit conservative, I like the Oris big crown auto with cathedral hands with a great strap you tried on suited you too, maybe because my Granpa will a pilot. (Was my brother's first watch too). Well done for keeping wallet closed that is a test!

That oris is one of my dream watches but even at the "discounted" price of 5800 that he was giving me I couldn't pull the trigger

Yeah that's big bucks, a secondhand car equivalent, a beauty. Nice to remember wearing them a lot cheaper 😆

Oh another one I really really loved after trying it on was the formex field. I loved that thing

Yes field watches are one of my passions, got a few plus some semi-field more casual versions. Yes the Formex Field & automatic look great, understated and with a webbing type strap hardly know they are there.

I bet it was, you did a lot of work during and in the post, much appreciated. I have yet to see Doxa in the flesh and that green Strat looks absolutely amazing! 👌
