Not too many watch enthusiasts in my small country town, so I’m glad to have somewhere that I can share, be inspired, learn, chat, and mostly—enjoy watches.
I’ve always enjoyed watches. I think the spark that really got me in deep was the Xeric Halograph II. It was the first time I’d discovered mechanical watches, and the crazy-quirky-unique display was something different.
I guess all I can say now is—I’m glad it wasn’t a Daniel Wellington! 😅
Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?
The first watch I ever bought was a blue Maui & Sons quartz ‘dive’ watch with the shark logo on the dial and a rotating plastic bezel. It was $35 (ALL my savings), and I was 8 years old.
I just wish I still had it.
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?
I look back and am grateful for the watches that I DIDN’T buy. Don’t buy when you’re in the hype. Give it a month, or even a week. If you still want it—save up, and buy it when you can afford it.
You’ll enjoy your watches more.
Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?
Currently enjoying Oris, Tudor, Longines, Grand Seiko, and Omega.
Q: What is your grail watch and why?
Who could pick just one!?
I think the VC American 1921 in white gold may be THE perfect watch. There just aren’t even words 😍🤤
I’m still waiting for a perfect Grand Seiko. They’ve come very close, but there is always something newer and better around the corner.
And something sporty. A Tudor, perhaps. Maybe the Pelagos 39? 🤔
I guess there never will be A single grail for me. My tastes are always changing, and newer is almost always better. But that’s what makes this hobby so exciting—you never know what will catch your eye next.
