Do you prefer buying new or used?

I’m new to the used watch world. I was in shock when I tried to sell one of my watch and finding out that it got a hefty price decrease.

Makes me wonder is it worth it to buy new? What’s your take?

Watches are like condoms. You have more fun if they're used.

Depends on the watch and brand. I have done a personal commitment that I will never buy a watch still in production over MSRP. So obviously those I try to buy new. For a brand that is a bit soft on the secondary market you can often get a decent discount that even the odds for buying new. I do like the purchase experience from getting a never worn watch at an AD but if the difference is to much I’ll go to the secondary market.

Both, depends on what I am buying and for what reason.

I used to collect vintage until I realized that repairing somebody’s bad habits was not what I am looking for in a casual hobby. I buy new 100% not concerned about depreciation, value retention.

·

Depends on the watch condition, I got some nice deals on a secondhand market with a mint condition

Been into watches since the late 80's, stopped buying new once the internet & eBay became a thing.

Really don't see any value or advantages of buying new. Buy lightly used, still in warranty.

Tho I do tend to swap/trade watches a fair bit on Farcebook forums (UK watch gang) .

I'm not a fan of the whole buying or selling process and work in retail so am probably more aware of the mark ups

Well, I always look for new, with a discount😎.

Depends on the price point

In the Micro world, I like new.

I’ve been very lucky (maybe even a little smart) when buying used. I would continue buying used if I could find what I want.

I'm a person who collects mainly vintage, so NOS examples are bloody hard to find, and if you do find them, expect to pay a premium, I get the same fun buying pre-owned, but I do have a few newer watches I've proudly added to my collection

I prefer New, but often buy used it just makes more sense sometimes.

Spot on. It's smart not to get oozed by hype and trends as they are the driving force for unjustly marked-up prices.

Interesting view, I've never seen buying used as "paying for the previous owner's mistakes" but to be fair it is exactly what buying used means!

Understandable. In my country, buying a microbrand is not an easy task (moreover finding one second-hand).

Ah sry for that mate 😕

I'll buy used. But only if the watch is in pristine condition. And for me, it has to have the boxes, cards, tag, etc.. And preferably, from the original owner or a legit dealer.
