Switching it up makes all the difference

I don’t know if anyone else has ever had the experience of purchasing a watch you really wanted and once you got it, you still liked it, but it just wasn’t doing it.

This was the way I had been feeling about my Omega Constellation. It was a watch that I had been ogling for a long time and when I found a nice one (Fully serviced 1962, steel case) that was within my reach I bought it. I took it out of the box and loved it. I put it on and for some reason it just wasn’t doing it for me.

I decided it was the strap, which was a nice quality, but too short. And I mean like Nomos grey suede strap short. My wrist is only 7.5, but I had to use the last hole on the strap and then throughout the day it wasn’t really that comfortable.

I bought another strap and it still wasn’t working for me, I tried it on a steel bracelet and a mesh and I began to wonder if maybe I had a watch that I would admire in my watch box, but not really wear. Since then, I have taken it out and put it on with several other strap choices but I just wasn’t that excited about it.

I am now in the process of culling the herd and have been figuring out which watches to keep and which ones to either sell or give away. I took out the Omega and was feeling sort of bad that I was considering getting rid of it, when I decided to try a grey snake skin strap that I bought for another watch, and didn’t feel like it quite matched up. I fiddled around and got the old strap off and put on the snakeskin and I am in love. I’m not sure if it’s the medium grey of the strap or the color of the, I want to say magenta stitching, but suddenly for me it was the right combo of restraint and playfulness. I now feel like I will be a.) keeping, and more importantly b.) wearing, what is probably one of the nicer watches in my collection.

It might not work for you, but it was the answer for me. Has anyone else changed their mind about a watch after switching straps?

I think that suits it surprisingly well 👌

That Pie-Pan is very and I mean very, very nice. Nice purchase. I swap straps all the time. I hate when they start getting grungy and a good way to change the look of the watch. BTW - I collect fountain pens too. Isn't it so much to refill piston or eye-droppers?

Absolutely All the time

Definitely. Love messing with straps, now mine isn't any where near as nice as yours (the watch or the strap) my latest is a red star chrono, looked flat on the stock strap, dismal tbh. Changed it and yeah, all good (sorry no pics as its very late here in the UK and I'm not getting out the boxes tonight, but I'm doing a write up soon). Your omega looks mint on that strap👌

That's a dream watch for me. I am a sucker for vintage. Most of my collection is vintage or new old stock. That pie pan is kiĺler. I like the strap choice. Really nice! It's a keeper.

I know what you mean, I have an obscene number of different colored inks. Demonstrators are great for that.
