ST1901 Movement

As the title suggests, this thread is about the Seagull ST1901 movement. It is probably the only mecanical chronograph movement at an affordable price, it is quite impressive that you can get a 1963 about 150$, while the next less expensive mechanical/automatic chronograph is about 2000$. Until today, I always tought only Seagull/Sea-Gull/SeaKoss/Sugess was using this movement, until I look closer to this Lorier Gemini and found out it also uses ST1901.

Since most microbrands use most of the time Mecha-quartz, I was surprised to see the ST1901 used here. It also made me wonder what other brands use this movement.

So any of you have some good suggestions for chronographs that uses this movement ? Other than Seagull ?

That’s a great looking watch.

hence why I was wondering if it's the only watch that uses ST1901 that looks soooo good

·

The Baltic Bicompax also offers this movement.

·

Studio Underd0g users the ST19 also.

·

Hemel use the ST1901 in many of their chronographs.

The $2000.00 chrono was put together by professionals where the Seagull was assembled by the cheapest labour they could find and they saved on lubricants too. Quality is very hit or miss and so is the Chinese warranty.

I own this watch. and it’s one of the best chronographs I have had the pleasure of using/wearing. even after a service this guy is more accurate than my speedmaster reduced. not by much, but a bit. still, I think the movement is great and the chronograph is very tactile too

Don’t forget about the very similar ST1908 which is the variant that includes moon and date for almost the same price.

Chinese watches have warranties? 🤯

Gemini is on my wish list.

I think I prefer this previous generation with the black second hand and no blue on dial.

I didn't knew they were making a Moonphase. Less my type, but very impressive indeed

It's a really nice looking watch, but I wonder, at 500$ if it's worth it?

Well, I bought one, so I think it was worth it. It’s subjective, but here are some things to conosider:

Yes, it isn’t as cheap as the ST1901 watches from AliExpress. But, it is the same price as the Lorier Gemini (and the Hemel actually has a sapphire crystal, something the Gemini doesn’t have). It’s also at least $100 less expensive than the offerings from Baltic and Studio Underdog.

Hemel is also a US-based company, which means it will be easier for me (as a US citizen and resident) with an actual warranty that won’t cost me a fortune in shipping should I ever need it.

Phylida uses the ST1902 variant in its Speedy Homage:
