I started by getting one of the less garish watches from TokyoFlash (Eleeno eclipse), and eventually made my way to citizen, and a trio of Timex Weekenders and too many nato straps. In 2018, I decided to try an automatic (Invicta pro diver) which really led me down the rabbit hole.
Now I'm mostly into traditionally sized watches, usually wearing a Seiko skx013, pogue, or Junghans Max Bill manual wind.
Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?
Pretty sure as a kid, I had a Casio calculator watch. First watch I intentionally bought was an Eleeno eclipse.
Q: Do you have a watch with a particularly interesting story behind it?
I own a true Pogue that belonged to my dad. He passed away 18 years ago, before I got into watches, so we never got to bond over that. During the pandemic, I was looking at old pictures and, with the help of the reddit watches sub, was able to identify his watch. I called my stepmom to see if she remembered it, and to my surprise, she had been looking at it the day before! She offered to send it to me, and I graciously accepted. I had it serviced and now wear it pretty often.
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?
Take your time to let your tastes develop!
Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?
Lorier, Nivada Grenchen, Breitling
Q: What is your grail watch and why?
Nivada Grenchen or Croton Chronomaster Aviator Sea Diver.
I love how it shouldn't work, but it totally looks rad
