Disappointed
I can't think of anything more disappointing than ordering a watch online and waiting with anticipation for it to arrive and than finding out it's fake! Thank you for this horology blog and website for the great information. Please teach us newbies how to identify fakes. Thank you kindly.

In most cases you will not be able to identify a watch without a reference, meaning that unless you specialize in a brand and a line of watches, you won't notice the difference. Once you have the watch in hand and are able to compare it, the damage may be done.
It sounds trivial, but buying from a reputable source, or an intermediary that allows for an escrow, is the way to go IMHO.
"Buy the seller, not the watch" has always worked well for me. Look for sellers with legitimate good feedback or just go to an AD
Ordered a watch waited 15 months… finally arrived and had a number of issues visible on the dial including a couple of water marks in the middle possibly on th underside of the crystal and dust + scratches on the dial - to say I was disappointed is a massive understatement & I went from a huge fan of the brand to not interested in the slightest, they broke my heart.
Buy the seller. Always.
Don't worry about identifying fakes. Buy from a trusted seller and be willing to pay a little more for peace of mind. This way you're putting yourself in position to more often than not buy the real thing.
