Should I send this to Omega or Independent Watch Shop for servicing?

Hi, I have an Omega Railmaster ref. 2503.52 that I bought last year from Chrono24. It doesn't have a service history, but I think it's due for a service. I have a timegrapher and this watch is running about 10-12 seconds late every day despite that it being a chronometer. My question is, should I send it to Omega Service Center? Because they said it will take months for them to service. Or should I send it to independent watch shop for servicing? I am currently based in Edinburgh, Scotland. And the nearest watch service center is Timpson UK. What should I do?

Timpson's as in the shoe people? If so, I'd avoid that with a quality watch, not saying they're not up to it but most of those sites are for changing quartz watch batteries rather than a certified and expensive chronometer.

There are a few independent places on Google which come up in Edinburgh but not used any of them so can't vouch for them.

Send it to Omega, if it is a older model then Omega would have the parts in their inventory and the sourcing would be quicker than what you would expect from an independent watch shop. Plus you get 2 years service warranty from Omega.

The service period is atleast 2 months no matter what watch you send to Swatch service center but since the watch is an older model, it will definitely take longer than usual. Unless you know a trusted watchmaker, I wouldn't go with some watch shop.

Normally it should run faster, not slower (due to less Amplitude). What is the Amplitude on the Timegrapher? (be sure to use the correct lift angle of 38°!)

For the love of God don’t use Timpsons, use an actual watch specialist. I’d think you’d probably just be better using Omega.

Omega. You can’t do better than the OEM for services.

I have had my older Seamaster serviced by my local AD twice. They have a watchmaker on staff. If the watchmaker is an authorized dealer they have the same access to parts as the service center. While the AD was a bit cheaper then sending it to Omega, it still took well over a month to get my watch back. I would not assume a local watchmaker would be faster as they might have quit a backlog.

Send it back to Omega. Everyone is having to wait even at independent watch makers. Within the last year sent a Rolex (6 months) and a TAG (4 months). First time being serviced for both. Never listened to AD about service time. 18 years for the Rolex, still kept “superlative” time, losing power reserve. TAG, 20 years, keeping great time and maintained 40 hours pr, the chronograph wouldn’t reset to 0, ahhh I dropped a couple times on a hard concrete floor. Surprisingly the TAG was more expensive right up front with routine service, then they had “required” fixes that I had to agree to for them to even service it. To be honest I probably would have said no, but it was really annoying that I couldn’t zero it.

2 year warranty after service. But they are pretty robust, probably be dead before they need service again.

If it was within COSC, which it’s not, I’d disregard “scheduled” maintenance. It’s not a car.

That is a fantastic watch. Please don't let Timpson's near it. Send it to Omega or a trusted independent watch maker for service.

My god it's beautiful. My grail🙏👊👍

The Uk have independent Omega certified, such as Swiss Time Services. They will be more reasonable value than sending it to Omega for the same standard of service. You can google which independent companies are Omega certified and approved.

Give it to your local guy and get it serviced. Just make sure he knows his stuff first. Don't burn out too much cash by sending it to Omega.

I found this place in Edinburgh, Omega certified repairs.

I'm not sure about the amplitude now since I left my timegrapher in my country. But I'll try to get an info on it using my phone app :D

Thanks guys for the response. I appreciate it. I talked to an Omega Certified repair centre based in Newcastle that can handle the servicing. It will take about 12 weeks (3 months) or so. That's not bad at all. Once I got a confirmation on whether I'll be staying in Edinburgh beyond June 2023, then I'll definitely send it for servicing. Also, when I talked to the guy, he said it's normal for the watch to go beyond COSC specification timing. Even after servicing, he said I will get a few seconds back, but it'll never be like COSC specification. I think that makes sense since this watch is beyond 15 years old. And I don't mind adjusting the time on the watch to match accurate time every day or so. Anyhow, thanks again for the responses! (P.S. I'll not send this watch to Timpson 😄 )

Hamilton & Inches don't sell them but are an Omega Service Center as far as I know.
