Am I the only one bored of GMT’s….

Ok I have a couple, and I do appreciate the function they perform, but, much like the integrated bracelet of last year, the constant GMT hand appearing on almost all new releases, has me actively seeking watches without them. Is it me? Does anyone else feel this way? Convince me with some examples of GMT watches that would change my view… if you can…

That’s an absolute stunner! What a gorgeous dial that is mate

No, not for me, I could have another 3 GMTs, such as a Grand Seiko, for example.

What a beautiful selection there you have! As a bona fide Seiko fan boy, I could never argue against a grand seiko anything, even a GMT…

Completely bored with GMT's but the spelunking feature on my Explorer 2 is indispensable......

Yep, can’t argue with that where the explorer is concerned. It’s not that I don’t like GMT’s, but the saturation point has gone way beyond what it should have. Maybe it’s just me being a grumpy chap 😂😂😂

Do you travel? If you don't 100% If you do, NO... I own traveler GMT's as well as desk GMT's and they serve a purpose... Sinn, Citizen, Rolex... If they are a no-no aesthetically, don't give them a second look....

If I travel I tend to use my multi band 6 g shocks, maybe take one of my GMTs perhaps, but I can’t say I would be hugely restricted by not having one with me.

The GMT is quite hot right now, but I thought about it and I don't think I need one. I don't travel all the time and it is easy enough to do a little math for a different time zone. Extra price, thickness and dial clutter for a GMT just not worth it to me. I also don't really care for bezels. I tend to go for simple and classic designs (3-hand or maybe with a date). I do think though that it would be cool to have an hour hand that can be set independently.

I think I fall in a similar category to you. I do like my dive watches, but can’t say I’ve found myself thinking “oooh I must take a gmt watch with me on holiday…”.

There has been a real proliferation of them.

There has been a real proliferation of them.

Couldn’t put it better myself! I’m not anti gmt by any stretch of the imagination, but it just seems that it’s every single dive watch or even field watches, has to have it 😂😂

·

The only thing I hate about GMTs is that I don’t have an opportunity to travel to different time zones to utilize the feature. Unfortunately, local and home time are the same :(

I'm with you, I feel the same about chronographs. I don't need a stop watch, they are more expensive, thicker and I love having a sweeping second hand. I have one gmt and one chronograph. I don't plan on buying others.

·

Keeping track of two or even three time zones in my head was never an issue for me....+8...-4...

Yes gmts are silly... Casio Royale does it better than all... And that's 20$

Driver ability to time things much more useful

Not sure you’ve missed anything! That’s pretty much it I think. Do you lean towards one type over another? I’m probably 75% dice watch (if we exclude my 32 g shocks 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️😂)

Of course all that said I do have my share of GMTs. Seven currently = Rolex Explorer II Polar, Grand Seiko Bamboo, an Arcaido (Jody's JOMW customized model), an RZE, an Isotope Ruby and two Jack Mason Stratotimers (Dr Pepper and Candy Corn.) 😃 😊 🙂

·

Like all tool watches (or those marketed as such) the interest in GMTs is wildly out of sync with its practical use case.

·

I don’t have a GMT but have been seriously considering getting one soon. I agree that they seem to be popping up everywhere and they certainly have a purpose but it’s not a complication that I would use. Jump on the bandwagon or stick with traditional 3 handlers?

Huge fan of Elliot Brown.

The Holton Pro and Beachmaster NIVO in particular.

I've owned the Holton Pro for years.

Best toughened, hard use, actual "unit" issue watch under $700.

Look up some of their torture testing, legit. Dropped it to almost to the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico and blown them up.

I wholeheartedly recommend either. And have both lol.

I’ve a personal connection to the SBS so I’ve a few CWC… but for some reason completely ignored/didnt hear about these… that’s a pretty decent recommendation I have to say. Am I right in believing the Holton professional is the one made with the modern day SBS in mind?

·
cota123

Yes. The build quality is that of a luxury watch. The dial, hands and indices look great when I am wearing a loupe.

I’ve yet to hear anyone say anything truly negative about them… not just value for money, but made to a significantly higher standard than some more established expensive pieces… I’ve flirted with the C63 so many times….

·

Not you at all. I'm burned out on GMTs as well as bezels. But the market dictates their production because those types of watches sell.

That’s a good point… at the end of the day the watch business is precisely that isn’t it, a business and if GMT’s are selling and selling well they’ll keep on making them in these numbers

Now your talking my kind of language. If we were all truly honest, Casio probably cover all of our watch needs better than anyone out there…

That’s a pretty decent “share”!!! The GS bamboo is an absolute belter of a watch, most envious!!

As I get older I’m less inclined to follow any trend and actively seek the alternative, polar opposite route to that suggested trend…

I agree. I’m getting bored of GMTs. I think it got hot since the post-covid reopening - one of the reasons I bought a BB Pro was to celebrate being able to travel again worry-free. I’m guessing the trend will soon die down.

Stunner! This is a gmt done well I may add. The purpose of a gmt I’m all for, and I have a couple, it’s just the bandwagon nature of every single diver having to have a gmt function that’s irked me. Your Tudor is a beautiful example of how it should be done!
