I think it all started with my grandmother lending me my cousin's watch so that I can get home before the time she specified. If I am not mistaken, I remember it being a databank telememo from Casio. Also, when I saw how automatic watches worked in primary school, I wanted one so badly.
Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?
A blue Flikflak with spaceships!
Q: Do you have a watch with a particularly interesting story behind it?
I bought myself a kids Lego watch from the duty free in Incheon international airport.
I was supposed to buy a watch for myself since I was visiting home from the military and didn't want to wear my G-Shock with scratches all over. I was going around the watches section to browse. Then I saw a watch from a fashion brand that my sister loved. I wasn't close to my sister so I thought that this would somehow help with our relationship. I ended up with not much money left so I looked for something in the less than $15 range. And that's when I saw the LEGO® Star Wars™ Stormtrooper™ Minifigure Link Watch. I liked Lego, I liked Star Wars, so I thought to myself "Seems fun! why not?" Funnily enough, it still does get wrist time.
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?
Don't forget to factor in the price of maintenance!
Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?
Panerai. I don't know why. I used to not like the looks of it. But I'm intrigued!
Q: What is your grail watch and why?
1989 Patek Philippe Ref 3960J 150th Anniversary Officier
It's my birth year watch and the aesthetic is just on point for me. The size, lugs, hands, dial, numbers... everything is just what I want from a watch.
