Is Casio World Time Overrated?

I get the value for money part of it but feels a bit overrated. What do ya’ll think?

I think people's praise of it is a little tongue in cheek. Yes it's great and fun and cool but it's also obviously a flimsy watch and I think everyone understands that when they get hyperbolic about how it's the greatest watch on earth.

Or maybe they mean it! I dunno. I have one!

No but not really if you look at it from a non watchguy perspective but maybe yes if you are happy with your 3 hand Patek and hate batteries but love accuracy and aren't really sure what time it is according to NIST time in which case a 50 dollar Casio is ,more than likely, more helpful complication than any mechanical fancy pants watches that people like to take pictures of in fancy cars that might be theirs or just fantasy shots taken at a dealership on a slow day.

Or not.

It’s a fun watch that is also has some great features. To me, it’s fine if people adore any watch. I’m just impressed that it has kept its presence so long!

Absolutely not IMO. 😀 It's myriad of functions/complications make it one of the most useful digital watches one can own - and has an awesome design. Plus, I love the little map as it makes it very 80s. It's my favorite Casio - iconic.

100% yes.

Influencers love to heap praise on cheap Casio watches to seem more "everyman". It's hard to rally behind a guy who calls anything costing less than $10K a shitter, but the people who wax poetic about cheap Casios are easy to get behind.

Is it an ok watch? Yes. Is it amazing? No.

Pretty much anything "God"-tier I'm afraid.

Interestingly enough, when off camera and being candid, i.e. - not in role, Nico Leonard actually is fairly interesting. Saw an interview where he talked about life before becoming "Mr. Shouts-at-rich-people's-collections".

But yes, to appeal to most who will never even be allowed in the door at GO, JLC, AP, etc, a lot of internet talking heads will super hype the cheapest Casios.

And they are great watches. Don't get me wrong.

For me, I did the research, and got something that was orignal-ish, and is still with me today. Was it about $100 more than the "God"-tier? Yup. Is it in a landfill after almost 20 years? Nope. And more than likely BabyYetti and all her siblings will wear it. Can't say the same for the original $15 F-91W I purchased. Maybe a reissue, def not the OG.

Casio offers so many features at such an attainable price that most of their offerings are a great value. For around $20-$30 USD you get a world timer, 5 alarms, chronograph, countdown timer, a backlight and 100m wr. But you also get a resin case, a not so great strap or an even worse bracelet, half the display providing useless info, and all of the specs on the dial. I tried one, didn’t care for it.

Is it great value? Yes. Is it the best watch for around $20-$30? Likely. Is it overrated? Yes, I believe it is for the amount of hype it receives. And I say that as a Casio fanboy.

If you like it, I say get yourself that Royale with cheese. There are certainly worse ways to spend $30. What I don’t understand is modding/upgrading it with stainless cases, sapphire, upgrading the bracelet, FKM straps. You can sink close to $300 into one of these. You can get a GW5000 for that kind of coin and no one will ever convince me the Casio Royale is better in anyway than a 5000 G.

YES

A utility watch imho. Good value and does everything it's supposed to, but just look at it!!

To me digital watches are an obsolete step between tool watches and the smart watch.

Not my cup of tea at all.

It’s worth being said, I like it but I don’t love it. It serves the function needed and I do like the map feature to show the time zones. I guess it’s the same with any hyped up watch, but in this case it’ll take time for me to really appreciate it.

Since when a smartwatch IS a watch?

Since when a smartwatch IS a watch?

It's in the wrist and tells time - for me they're the next logical evolution of the digital watch.

Dislike both myself, but I am old. 🤣
