$1000 for a Timex?

Is the World Ready for a $1,000 Swiss-Made Timex?

The most expensive Timex ever features a Swiss automatic movement, part-titanium construction and copious details.

But are you ready for a Swiss-made Timex watch costing almost $1,000? As the brand is known and loved for its fun and casual watches often costing under $200, a "$975 Timex" might sound like an oxymoron.

But if the previous S1 watches in the Giorgio Galli collection are any indication, we can expect the new S2 to be more than worthy of its price — and, at the very least, worthy of your attention.

Timex acting brand new now a days

I’m not ready, I’m still on the fence about Seiko prices close to $1000 or over. I have no problem with Grand Seiko pricing.

·

I heard Timex is making a play to move upmarket. @Porthole

No you didn’t, don’t be silly.

Sellita movement, Swiss made, it was always going to fall into the $750-$1250 bracket. It’s Timex, pricing will vary.

It’s a nice-looking watch. I’ve said that on record.

A Swiss made watch from one of the most iconic, respected, 100+ year old, US based brand for $1000?

Why the hell not?

·

Seems like a fair price given the spec, brand history and limited availability.

Looks good too imho. 👍🏻👍🏻

I know, I know. I was just joshin’. Playing off your post from yesterday. 😬

It makes perfect sense.

It may be a shock to people who have only heard about watches in the age of the online "watch community" and it's associated groupthink, but Timex is a well know and generally well respected brand name.

Prices for everything have been going up, so it makes perfect sense that a Swiss Made Timex would be near the $1K USD mark.

What do you feel about King Seiko?

What do you feel about King Seiko?

I think King Seiko should be priced higher, I did look into getting one. After reading some reviews awhile back, the movement inside them weren’t anything special over their other watches. I also stay away from watches that have bracelets that don’t have micro adjustments, I need to have those.

@DixonSteele just posted a review of his King Seiko.

Just gonna drop this shameless little plug right on down here:

If I didn’t already have an S1 38 and saving for a Zulu Time, I’d probably get one.

Though my next Timex will likely be a one of the solar quartz Expedition North watches.

While I agree with your sentiment, Timex making a $1000 watch is akin to McDonald's making a foie gras burger. It happens sometimes, I mean, Ford makes the GT40, right? which no one confuses with an Escort. But this is the exception to the rule.

That being said, this Timex Georgo Galli is a really good looking watch and I have no problem with how it's priced.

I have no problem at all with the concept of expensive watches from brands that are known for their affordable ones. But I hate this one😅

Why? Don’t leave us hanging…

I don’t know it’s just off in some way…

Im a Fan of the movement,

I think the skeletonized lugs are wild,

Even the screws that hold the caseback on are awesome. The hands are sick, and I really like the ring on the dial which the indices are milled into.

Yet in my eyes none of those awesome features fit together and so the end result is just a shadow of what it could have been.

Thank you for taking the time to explain. I’m not sure what I can offer as comfort, but I understand - you like what you like, and sometimes it doesn’t work despite containing all the elements that are appealing. I suppose it might just be a case of too much - a pudding that is too rich to enjoy.

Let’s see if there is an S3, and maybe they’ll get the balance right.

Why not? People will drop $1000 on a microbrand with no history and no certainty they’ll be there if the watch needs servicing later under warranty. At least Timex is well known and reputable and the chances of them simply disappearing are small. I plan buying one after Christmas.
