Deadly Ray.

So then folks .. who thinks this is a serious SKX contender for a gateway diver watch ?

Other then trying to just remain loyal to the OG 007.

I don’t think I can say it’s isn’t a perfect contender! Especially after the price hike!

I’m glad I grabbed the SKX009j1 before that started to increase as well. For me I also like the color way better.

My next watch is probably an auto diver, Orient has been looking really good. I like my seikos but am wary of qc issues.

007 has a License to Kill the Ray

It can be, but one has the crown at « four » and the Ray/Mako at 3, thus making the SKX slightly more « unique ». I have a Ray 2 in blue, which I like to wear with fossil leather and silicon straps (22mm)… and it’s actually the one I wore today. Still mine had a problem with the crystal and scratched a lot for unknown reasons (out of the Amazon return window). I had to change to a sapphire crystal, but now its water resistance is not assured.

Awe Orient. Such a great watch for the price. I own 4 Orients and love them all!

Seiko no screw down crown. Mineral crystal and alignment issues. So Seiko has it's own qc issues.

Anyway Orient sits under the Seiko umbrella.

Enjoy that watch!

Cheers!

Yes indeed. Orient and Citizen both make contenders for gateway pieces.

·

It’s a great daily driver! I’m hoping orient releases the ray 3 and fixes all the issues with their previous model (sapphire crystal, better crown, and better bezel action)!

·

Orient quality is as good as Seiko but more affordable.

Since Seiko discontinued the SKX, Orient is 100% the best value brand of the two imo. The SKX case is fun for its original shape, but the Ray/Mako/Kamasu case sits so much better on the wrist. Plus you get a screw down crown and saphir for the price of a discounted SRPD... Yeah it's a no match really. Seiko lost the value crown.

The Orient Ray line is incredible. Screw down crown, great bezel action, very nice quality, hand winds and hacks with quick day and date setting. I have the newest version of the Blue Ray and the dial is a stunning blue. Not sure the Seiko has anything over on it but just my opinion/preference.
