Watch #01 - Best Bang for the Buck
I’m new to the watch game. For the longest time I’ve been wearing an Apple Watch due to its fitness functionality. But as I get older I realize that I should be wearing real mechanical watches that I can afford which I can pass on as heirloom. So I started watching tons of YouTube videos in search of my first automatic affordable watch (aka less than $1,000).
After weeks of research I’ve decided to go with the Tissot Gentleman which is beloved by the watch community. The watch community is right! This is a thing of beauty that punches above its weight class! It’s a solid Swiss-made automatic watch with 80-hour power reserve with the elegance of a Rolex Oyster Perpetual at a fraction of the price. I even got compliments from a Rolex dealer on that sunburst blue dial 😁 It has become my everyday watch that I can also use in formal settings. This is my gateway drug into the watch geek rabbit hole. I’ve been bitten by the watch bug. And my adventure has just begun 😅⌚️

The Gentleman is underrated, overshadowed by the hype of the PRX. It has classic styling and as you mentioned, it can do it all. Great selection. 👍

exactly. i was actually choosing between the Tissot PRX & Gentleman. the PRX is more popular. but when I tried them on, it was the Gentleman that spoke to me 😎

Frankly, the Gentleman will never have the hype of the PRX, but arguably, will have more staying power and live through all the trends.

i believe the PRX is more popular coz it’s cheaper, more variety, and it looks similar to a AP Royal Oak 😅

It's just the integrated bracelet hype that makes it so popular.

true. but the Tissot PRX has heritage. it was an original design from their old catalog. but hey, styles come and go 😅

Your journey sounds almost identical to mine 2 years ago, and I purchased the exact same watch (which I happen to be wearing today 😉)
Arguably one of the most underrated watches ever! The Tissot Gentleman is one of my faves. I'm yet to pull the trigger as I'm ticking some other boxes first but no matter what I add to my collection, redundancy or not ... ones got to be in there.
I believe the Silicium movement is essentially the COSC Powermatic 80, but without the certification.
Believe me, the thought crossed my mind! 🤣
I used a dremel. Found a ‘polishing kit’ and worked well. However, I couldn’t get over the lack of taper and fit a jubilee on it 👌

Gentleman series has some really versatile watches, I have one with sunburst golden grey dial and open heart.
