Omega model?

Hi all. We're trying to identify the model of my father-in-law's watch, without taking the case-back off. There's no geneve, Seamaster or constellation text, didn't look like there's lume on the hands. Just says "automatic". Any suggestions for a model name to search for?

Thanks. Looking on Chrono24 they call this a Geneve even though it's not on the dial. That would make a lot of sense because it's so similar to that style. I wonder if there's any explanation somewhere about when they did and didn't put the name on the dial 🤔

Looks like it's a 'quality' thing around their product range.

there is a little more info on that Ref No. here -:

Ah, yes, the Cmega. Very rare. 🙂

Joking aside, beautiful watch!

Assuming the other commenter is correct, here is Omega's vintage database on the 162.009.

Does the case back indicate 18k gold? The database says it is solid 18k pink gold.

Looks like a 1970s Geneve. Omegas of the 1960s and 1970s were often available without the collection name on the dial. In case of this one, there'd be the Seamaster seahorse on the back if it was a Seamaster, nothing there would mean it's a Geneve.

Pity about the dial. It looks like someone attempted to clean it, but instead has dislodged the varnish layer over which the Omega name was printed. Seen that happen before.

I'm not sure, I'll ask my brother in law to take a look. Thanks for the link!

You might check out this video and this YT channel in general - some great content on vintage Omegas. It helped me identify a tricky model in the past.

Cool, thanks. I've been trying to figure out and find the watch my Dad wore when I was a kid in the late 60s to early 70s (and sadly tossed during the quartz crisis). I remember a silver dialed 3 hand watch with a horseshoe emblem (didn't know what omega was as a company or a greek letter back in elementary school) but don't remember any writing and am sure I would remember something like Seamaster or Geneve so was starting to doubt it was an Omega until now.
