Most overrated brand...

Won't bring the big "R" brand into this. I think most of us know they are well made and currently ridiculously priced. This will based on brands I have owned. Mido. Have owned a couple of Mido models. WAY overpriced, too often oversized and finishing is just "meh." And a big "NO" at their prices. Seiko. Don't own a single Seiko now. The QC and prices asked have just become laughable. And yet the fanbois keep buying them and putting up with it. Hamilton. You just keep making oversized watches and you have ZERO ability to understand AR coating. Your lume is a joke. Stop asking goofy prices for mass production watches. Anyone who buys a Hammy at retail is getting snookered.

Seiko. I bought my first Seiko 5 Sport this week to fill out some beater options. It's a nice watch for $200 but I don't get how people completely fawn over the brand. Even at $500-600 there are definitely better choices.

Mido. Agree with you about them being overpriced.

New Seikos are also edging to the overpriced range for the quality, but you can get really good ones at a steal 2nd hand and they don’t cost an arm and 2 legs to service.

Hamilton… hmmm…

By far Seiko is the most overrated brand. I never seen anyone wearing a Mido I probably need to go hunting to find a Mido in Los Angeles. Hamilton to me it has always been a meh brand. I still think Seiko wins if you buy outside of the MSRP.

You can still find a Seiko 5 GMT under 300

The regular Seiko's for 150

Also many Prospex for under 300

I don't think is so much fanboys is just a very affordable brand in the grey and used market. Especially for the enthusiast that like heritage and in-house movements. Citizen beats Seiko no problem in the QC and quality but Citizen do not have heavy hitters like Seiko. Same with Microbrands like Long Island and Dan Henry nice watches but no heritage.

I don’t think any of these brands are overrated. Can they improve on a few things? Yes! Overrated, I disagree.

·

I don’t think any of these are over-rated.

Im a bit cross at Seiko fanboys. If they didnt put up with price increase and quality decrease and stopped buying overpriced poor quality watches for a while, they would have a big influence on Seiko pricing. But untill people stop valuing a name on the dial so high, it will be business as usual. Bummer for my tight ass because the watches are very cool.

I think it's Seiko of the three. Seiko is coasting on an old reputation with their recent QC issues, lack of sapphire & price increases.

But for me, the most overrated brand is Swatch, ESPECIALLY since the MoonSwatch.

Not the group, just the brand.

·

I don‘t think any of these is overrated per se. But as wirh most other (major) brands the pricing has gotten out of control in the last three years or so.

·

I think it's fair to say that Seiko 5 watches are overpriced at MSRP and the brand has lost touch. But there is also a flood of them and they quickly lose 30-50% value on the grey market where the price becomes right for what you get.

On the other hand, Hamilton increased their prices on the Khaki collection a lot more at the beginning of the year. The Khaki Field went up 30% at MSRP and that's ridiculous. Completely killed the value of this line in my opinion and I won't recommend one anymore.

Personally, I find lot of Hamilton’s watches to be uninspired and uninspiring.

I do wonder if a lot of the love and hype for Hamilton is because they used to be an American company, and are now Swiss, and that ticks a lot of boxes for a largely US-centric Internet

Hamilton

Had a few, never kept any, they're always disappointing!

Honestly believe they're kept afloat by American patriotism & YouTube reviewers constantly pushing the brand ("the khaki mechanical is the best entry level Swiss watch" 😂🤣😂)

Never had a Mido, doubt I will - the style just isn't me.

Seiko - I don't even look at Seiko's below £1000 anymore because that's where I see the value/quality ratio is at its optimum

Hamilton.

Every time I watch a review lauding their value I'm left wondering what's there that's supposed to get me excited?

·

I personally think Rolex is the most overrated brand out there.

·

I don't think neither of these brands are particularly overrated. I would pick Hamilton in a pinch, as outside of the Murph I don't like many of their designs.

That's my conclusion as well. After experiencing the Khaki Field Mechanical in the metal, I was unimpressed by the flat painted dial, uniform blasted case, and poor lug design. I expected a lot more after so many outstanding reviews on YouTube, and especially for that kind of money.

I can only imagine the people recommending this watch are biased by the American heritage and Swiss-made signaling. Nothing about this watch inspires quality construction in my opinion and it's far from being a good value product at the current $650 MSRP compared to what's available out of Japan and China. Sure, it's affordable in the scope of inflated Swiss-made watches, but the country of origin doesn't make it automatically good.
