Reimagining the Air King
More photoshop fun and promise last one from me for awhile.
I was a bit underwhelmed by the new release of the Air King though it’s definitely an improvement to me. That said, I personally feel it still reads as too busy… so I decided to attack it in photoshop.
Started with cleaning up the dial by shifting the the 5-55 minute markers to a fixed bezel. I think with the addition of the 12 marker, this gives its own identity and some separation from Explorer. Finally, I went to plain white versions of the crown and logo which feels cleaner and provides a bit of flexibility to introduce new dial colors without having to compete with green/yellow marks.
Butchered these at best but a fun exercise none the less. I think my favorite is the last one with SS bezel but think the second is likely the most readable if there we’re still maintaining the Air King is a pilot’s watch.

I really like the one with the black bezel. MUCH better than the real Air King. I have zero interest in the Air King as released, but would be interested in your version.

Thanks man! Yeah, feel the same about not being totally interested in the Air King as released. I think my favorite Rolex release is the Falcon’s Eye Yachtmaster and then the fluted Platinum Day-Date… neither of which I will ever be able to afford, 😂

Nice PS work. And considering what Rolex has done TO the Air King with the last couple of iterations, anything is better than what they currently offer. Nicely done!

The stainless bezel mockup is definitely a nice look. But, to be honest, I didn't hate the Air-King release.
I want all three! I think Rolex needs to think outside the box they created for themselves. The Air King is definitely an opportunity to be a little adventurous, I would say the same for the Milguas too.

Nice work. that kind of imagination isn't a Rolex thing. Their big thing is a 05 is stead of 5.
