Good afternoon watch friends! ๐
Having just visited a high-end watch boutique and experienced the #patekphilippe 2023 collection, I had a thought, could you microchip a watch?
I know that various people i.e., Paul Thorpe (Digital Watch Vault) are trying to create safe ways for us watch collectors to keep our valuables safe.
Is it a viable option?
Thank you Ben

Microchip as in GPS location services or microchip as in an identification?
Given the AirTag in the pic I think they mean a traceable chip. I hope someday something like that could become available. Perhaps it would be easier to hide in a strap, but would it be removable. Still could give a fighting chance if the tech was there tho. I think inside the watch is an interesting idea as well, maybe built into the caseback or something.

both something to protect the watch and be traceable

only picked that as a picture reference, but yes a small hide-able device to locate your watch IF stolen
Wouldn't that make it a quartz? ๐คฏ
Jokes aside, it's unlikely.
Currently they are too bulky, require a power source that would need replacing regularly, and ultimately the brands aren't responsible for the security of our watches.
Itโs a good idea on paper but unless if you like in the uk they has been a massive problem with motorbike thieves even having them tracked donโt worry them as the police are not willing to go get it and catch the thiefโs and if you go you and give them โgood talking toโ the police will do you but if you are lucky enough to live in the USA and in a state that lets you shoot thieves a 9mm Hollowpoint to the head is more effective then any tracker

LOVE IT! ๐ฏ๐
Wouldnโt help me if I got robbed while wearing the watch.. but I do hide an AirTag in one of the pillows of my watch box and inside my safe in case my house gets broken into when Iโm out
That would be a very smart thing to do. But criminals will catch on and just remove the case back right away once it becomes a thing but still work the extra step to make it harder for them I think.

thank you Sir, was just a thought I had to try and help those unfortunate enough to be robbed! I think the technology will be there in a few years, but like others have said, it's not the watch companies responsibility ๐ข
LOVE IT! ๐ฏ๐

100% agree, amount of people you see wandering round looking at you thinking "what can I steal!" ๐ญ
No, I have insurance and extreme violence to protect my pride and joy ๐๐๐ป
The pet chips might be sewn into a strap but no one other than vets use the reader. Serial numbers would be more effective. Insurance is easier than a tracker and safer than a confrontation. Cops don't care for anything under a 5k loss.
Criminals use the same technology and more. The idea is in good faith, but they will probably just use it to trace where the good watches are located.
