To homage or not to homage that is the question!?

As I look at all the luxury time pieces, I am enamored by the mechanics and the craftsmanship. These pieces are truly works of art the exhibition case backs, hand painted dials, the engineering! But lets take a step back and look at the pieces that you cannot see the engineering or the mechanics. There is no hand painted dial. There is no hand tooling. I am not classifying these watches any less by any means! I still recognize the craftsmanship they are still works of art. At what dollar amount is it ok to ask the question. To homage or not to homage? Understanding the response that I will receive from the purists, and I accept that. There is something to be said about having the original piece. I am also not to the point of my watch collecting where I can justify a ten-thousand-dollar watch. For example I love the dial combination of the Rolex Wimbledon with a jubilee bracelet and fluted bezel(the stainless steel one) we are not talking precious metals. I get that class!

I see this and fall in love with this watch. Everything about it! I still cannot justify the price point. I recently had someone build me a "Lotus Wimbledon" and I love it! There is still a little bit of a void knowing it isn't the OG but once again the only box it doesn't check is the fact that is has a Lotus flower instead of the crown. On top of that I was able to support a small business got a hand written note! So I ask again. To homage or not to homage? Now I don't have many homages in my collection just because there are so many options out there at amazing price points that check every box. Do you have an untouchable or an unjustifiable? Let me know I am eager to hear! #rolex #homage #question. Thanks for reading! Please keep in mind I am absolutely NOT talking about clones that I do not stand behind!

Congrats on the new watch! I don’t have a problem with homage watches. When buying my first expensive piece, I loved the look of the old Tudor snowflake subs and was planning on getting a Steinhart homage to that design. I thought about it some more and decided that I would try to save for the BB58 instead, and I’m super happy I got that watch. I think it all depends on what a person wants, if they can buy the more expensive piece, and if they want to wait to save up, etc. :)

Was it you or the supplier that did not like the date magnifier?

There are high end watches that I own, ones that I want, and others that I like the look of but I'm not willing to pay 4/5 figures just for the look.

To that end I own 3 copies.

PD Daytona to see if I like it on the wrist long term before I commit to the real thing.

Benyar Milgauss because I like the green glass over the blue dial with an orange hand, but I'm not interested in paying big bucks just for the look. I couldn't care less about the movement or anti-mag properties.

Sugess copy of Breitling Deus Top Time. Again I love the design but not to that price, and having that horrible Top Time on the dial. Shame because I like the "Deus" logo.

I’m going with the supplier’s legal team 😂

I'm not an homage person whatsoever. Personally, I'm ok not owning something I can't (or won't) afford. A fake version of it wouldn't satisfy me. That being said, that's my opinion. I would never push that on anybody.
