Slowing down, slowing WAY down.

After going crazy buying things the last few years, I've decided to really limit myself. Stop buying so many 'cheap' things and focus on fewer but more 'premium' objects. My main hobbies are Watches and Knives, so that's where I'm focusing. The first purchase of 2024 was this Seiko Prospex Speedtimer, and I cannot be happier. I was able to get it for a great price via Chrono24. The seller was located in Japan, I ordered the watch last Wednesday and it arrived that Friday. Which is crazy.

I fell in love with this one because of the crazy 1/100 second hand. Seeing that little guy spin like a propeller is a lot of fun. But what is even more fun is watching the hands of the bottom dial go from telling time to switching to counting minutes when the chronograph starts.

The only minor down side is the buckle has only two spots of micro adjust. It appears that Uncle Straps has a clasp that ups that to 3, I ordered it but it hasn't arrived yet for me to verify if it will actually fit.

I'm not sure when I'll buy another watch, or what it will be. I have my eye on a Citizen Attesa HAKUTO-R Super Titanium, but I also have been eyeing a few of the Seiko Astron watches.

Is anyone slowing down on purchases, or maybe climbing the ladder of 'quality'. Moving on from the cheaper impulse buys to the more thought out and considered ones?

I'm in the same boat. But it's hard for me to justify a luxurious, self-indulgent expense.

These are super cool!

What a nice piece, looks slightly retro but in a timeless way. Got a reference number?

I've made one (pre-owned) watch purchase in 2024 so far ... and that's after deciding during the autumn of 2023 that I have enough now and don't really need anymore! LOL!

I'm not a materialistically driven person by nature and am in fact somewhat of a "minimalist" ... and at my age, I definitely don't need (or even want) to accumulate more STUFF.

I enjoy my watches ... and looking at other folk's watches, but it is time (for me) to stop ... 18 is MORE than enough. Eventually, I'll sell or give away a few of them.

Finale last words, no more less expensive watches from now on only classic or grail type watches. Be right back need to bid on a Timex.

I feel you man. Started with affordable pieces, then into luxuries. Now into vintage watches. I suppose that’s how it works in watch collecting cycle. It’s fun! 😘

·

I've got a solid core collection now and have done the same thing, apart from a couple of specific less expensive watches, it will be one in one out from now on.

Hey Steven,

Your experience is exactly like mine but mine occured over the last quarter of 2023 😅. I told myself I’d quit buying budget watches but I’ve already bought 2 this year so I’m failing my goal 🙈.

Great looking Seiko btw, that’s a rather unique design, reminds me of a car’s dashboard.

I have this same watch, and it’s such a fun watch. It’s so funky. Glad you are liking yours as well! @barcelet

One thing I've done to slow myself down is to focus on only allowing myself to own one watch from each brand I like. That forces me to understand the depth of the brand and justify to myself why that particular watch should be the one watch I can buy from them

·

try it on a brown racing strap too...
