Before I pull the trigger on this…

Wanted to ask my fellow watch enthusiasts - is there anything else I should consider in the similar price band - before I confirm with my AD?

Stunning watch - given your wrist size just make sure you have tried one on before committing your money. I was in the boutique a month ago and tried several on. My wrist is just a little bigger than yours and some were too large for me. At GS money I am expecting a great fit.

Enjoy

I tried it today and just loved it. Other than all the good stuff what caught me by surprise was how light the watch is!

A buddy of mine has one. I can honestly say that I think it's a near perfect watch. I'm sure you won't regret it!

·

OMG! Sakura watch? I don’t like pink but I would get this one in a heart beat!

It can’t be just pink. Needs to be Sakura pink!!!! 🥳🫣

If it helps, I have a tiny wrist and I love everything about it. The fit, the lightness, the sweeping seconds and the exhibition case back.

But I do have to say, go to the boutique and try it out too. Nothing beats trying and feeling it on your wrist. 😉

Thnx! I have a small wrist as well. I tried it on today - and loved it!

I’m a fan and I do think they represent amazing value.

If the watch is being pitched to you at RRP have you asked for/received a discount from the AD? Not sure where in the world you are but in most locations it seem easy enough to get 10% off RRP assuming it’s not a limited edition. No harm in asking if you haven’t already. If the AD knows you’re still undecided then call him/her tell them you are still keen but that you are looking at a few alternatives (even if you aren’t) and just ask if that’s the best he can do for you price wise so that you have all the information in order to decide. Not sure what’s culturally appropriate where you are?

Mine is a limited edition but I still got it at a discount.

Well I never had a pink watch and never imagined I would want one. But this one - has been on my mind for a while now.

Btw - the pink is very subtle and shows as pink from some angles and almost white from other ones…

·

IMO there aren’t many things just like this on the Market… just make sure you are 100% convinced before pulling the trigger…

Cheers and congrats (in advance)

·

Good choice. Can't go wrong with a GS.

Yes. I have asked for a discount - and at this point the price I’m getting is below retail.

BTW, I’m in India…a city called Hyderabad (in the southern part of the country).

And beautiful watch you got!

Well if you want a pink dial sports watch I think you are looking at the right manufacturer (GS). As @AlexTheWatchmaker said above the SBGH341 is a legit contender in that catalog as well. Trades offs to be considered spring drive vs hi beat, size, etc. If you can get them both on wrist you will probably know what is best for you.

·
AlexTheWatchmaker

Have you considered the SBGH341?

Image

I'm personally not the biggest fan of the 9R65 movement because of the power reserve on the dial.

The new spring drive movement is much more appealing but also a good deal more expensive and it's not currently featured in any sakura dial model.

The SBGH341 has a hi-beat movement, which is cool but it's not the 9SA5, which is sad.

It's priced about 10% higher than the SBGA413 and also has the 62GS case in titanium.

It's also 2mm smaller in diameter.

I think it really just depends on what you're after exactly.

Thnx a bunch for the details. I actually quite like the power reserve indicator on the dial. And also love the spring drive movement.

Will check this one - if the dealer has it for sure.

The Heritage Collection WITH dials is way better than the one without.

So you‘re set and can ask your AD for these models ;)

I love my two Grand Seikos, by the way

Well not sure about that as if it were the case any G-Shock could embarrass a Patek in terms of precision timing. Actually with the quartz crisis of the 70’s almost all of the mechanical watches disappeared from the face of the earth as quartz watches were extrelemly precise and surprisingly expensive. Now high end collectors focus more on tourbillons and mechanical wonders and less on quartz assisted watches and precision accomplishments. Being said that, GS has definitively beautiful calibers and gorgeous designs and truly a piece of tech art.

I guess the differentiator for me is that quartz movements aren’t mechanical, aren’t autonomous, and require batteries (or, in the case of solar, capacitors) that need to be replaced whereas Spring Drive offers all of the permanence, craftsmanship, and beauty that we find in mechanical watches while integrating a modern regulation system to deliver quartz accuracy (and that graceful movement of the seconds hand). To me, that movement represents a massive leap forward and genuine innovation in watchmaking that does embarrass Swiss brands who make incredibly minor upgrades to 75-year-old technology, market it as a breakthrough, and use it as an excuse to raise prices yet again. I totally get why many people stick with mechanical movements over cheaper, more accurate, and more durable (in the short-term) quartz watches, but I really admire Spring Drive for bringing mechanical watches into the 21st century and offering something that brings far superior performance without sacrificing beauty, craftsmanship, or elegance. That, to me, is true luxury.

Of course, if we’re talking about the highest-end mechanical pieces with old-world movements individually crafted by hand, I absolutely see the appeal and pride in owning a work of art like that. But as the vast majority of luxury watch movements are almost entirely mass-produced on robotic assembly lines, I don’t see where Spring Drive falls short in any way compared to other mainstream luxury brands.

This is a stunning piece and I hope you wear it in good health and prosperity.

Yes! For me, it reminds me of the walks I used to have by the Meguro river when Sakura was blooming!

·

Do it! Do it! Do it!

·

I'm not sure there's a comparable watch.

·

Fabulous dial and Spring Drive, what more would you want?

·

I'm waiting for mine. While I have seen the winter variant and tried it on, I haven't seen the Shunbun in the metal. But really exicted to get the call from the AD. Hopefully soon.

·

This is a brilliant .. however do have a look at the White Birch ..

OK. Will do.

·

No micro adjust on bracelet means unwearable on it for me. Which is a shame as it’s beautifully done. No lume either and ignore the BS about the hands being so reflective you can see it in low light…

Maybe go find my review.

My honest opinion is it’s a lovely watch. But very far from a GADA.

I love mine but I really learnt a lesson with this purchase as was starting my collection all over.

I’d only recommend anyone gets a shunbun after they have several other box ticking watches…

·

I picked up the watch today…got a decent discount (maybe coz I always go with this AD).

Not able to get it off my wrist as of now. Will share pics another day 😁

Thnx everyone for all the information, inspiration and critic - which helped me make my decision. 🤘🤘
