A more relevant wrist measurement

With a wrist “width” just north of 60mm, I reckon I can easily rock a watch with a lug-to-lug of 44mm, or even more. As long as there’s a bit of flesh showing each side (I don’t personally like a watch to overhang the wrist).

Should more emphasis be made of the wrist width rather than circumference in watch spec reporting?

Makes sense! And lug to lug, not the diameter.

case and point this omega ploprof. i have 15.9 cm wrists but the ploprof wears fine since it has a short lug to lug

Man, that looks huge on your wrist

Man, that looks huge on your wrist

oh its definitely big, but the shorter lugs make it wearable

·

According to the watch police it should be around 80% of the back of the wrist. So with a 60mm measurement 48mm should be the maximum lug to lug....... 🙄

That things looks like a tank on your wrist.

nothing wrong with wearing an oil tanker

Agree that wrist shape is as important as overall circumference, maybe more so.

My wrists are reasonably large - 20cm or 7.75in - but flat and broad, not unlike yours.

I consider myself lucky. I like small watches in general but prefer a larger diver (42mm's with a long lug length is perfect). I haven't come across a watch that overhangs my wrist. 52 - 53mm and I've got a fair bit of wrist ether side. As I said: lucky.

Certina DS PH200-m (43mm X 52mm).

You can easily do up to 50 with little issue (based on photo + measurement you have a medium to large-ish but not overly large wrist) depending on shape of the watch. I have a 51mm width and my limit of what looks good is 46 or 47mm lug to lug.

This is the more relevant measurement (wrist width x lug-to-lug) I would agree, the (wrist size x diameter) is really more an approximation of this bec lug-to-lugs aren’t typically reported. Off the top of my head, I think only Casio regularly reports lug-to-lug but they don’t report diameter iirc haha 🤷🏻.

For my case, I have a wrist width of about 50mm so I find watches between 44-46mm the best fitting for me, I can stretch up to 48-49mm without it looking too big.

What’s interesting though is that these specs tend to come with diameters of 36-38mm so using lug-to-lug or diameter I actually end up in the same place :).

·

Perfect sense I've got small but wide wrists and wore this for years with no problems.

Yes everyone is different so mine is a small wrist and flat. So even a Casio Duro is too big.

This is a good reason to buy myself a caliper.

·

Yes definitely agree with your statement. Wrist shapes are different and sometimes circumference doesn't tell the limits. Also lug to lug, bezel thickness and dial color ( white wears bigger than black ) are very important factors but oftenly neglected ( maybe L-L is but rest not so much ).

·

Not a bad idea for those who are particular.

I'm prolly an outlier, but I'll wear anything, as long as it's something I'm digging....

There's even rumours of a golden skull watch that have circulated, the "machine spirit" is said to be quite the abomination...(ask @SpecKTator 😂😆)

Yea man I never fully understood that. I always felt the same way about how a watch is going to look on wrist. I’m glad you mentioned it in a post. It makes more sense to tell your wrist width so a person can check the lug to lug to prevent over hanging.

·

Yup, I believe the wrist span/width is a better metric than the wrist diameter against a watch's L2L. Gives you a clearer idea how the watch would wear on your wrist. 👍 I got an average wrist at 17cm (about 6.7in) but a wide 55mm wrist span. I have pieces with L2L of 52-53mm and I have no problem wearing them. 😊

Great idea im going to use mine to measure my wrist!👍

Now I see where you got this question from. Definitely a good idea 💡

You got me 🤣

Well, hell. Now I am going to have to go home and break out the calipers.

Despite being 6'4", 270#, I have a flat (now much flatter after 80# weight loss over the last two years) and my wrist circumference is down from 19cm to 17.8cm.

Wrist shape also plays a role in what fits best.
