Seiko diver bracelet adjustment

I was experiencing discomfort while wearing my SPB147 (62 MAS) with the original bracelet I bought for it and I was surprised because I didn't have this issue with the very similar bracelet of the SPB207 (MM200).

I had adjusted the bracelet for a comfortable fit, not too tight, but tight enough so the watch doesn't slip down the wrist.

Upon closer inspection of the mark it was leaving on my skin, I found the culprit was the diver extension as it was pressing down or pinching a specific point on the wrist, just due to the weight of the watch head hanging while wearing it.

I just inverted the bracelet so the diver extension is on the other side of the wrist and voilà! problem solved, no more marks, and the bracelet is now super comfortable.

I did the test this evening with the MM200 and, although not as evident as it was with the 62MAS, the mark was also there.

Comparing both bracelets, it turns out that the links are a bit shorter in the 62MAS so the hinge of the diver extensions falls just a little bit higher up the side of my wrist, enough to press harder.

So I did the same with the bracelet and yes, it is even more comfortable now. It is just a little bit awkward when closing the bracelet because the clasp folds the other way now, and the logo in the security latch is upside down, but it is worth it.

So if anyone has this issue with their divers, try it.

That's really good to know. Seiko bracelets can be very challenging sometimes

I struggled with the sizing and fitting of my bracelets when I first started with watches until I learned that I had to balance both sides of the bracelet so the folded clasp was centered below the wrist.

In the case of the diving bracelet, that means one side is quite shorter than the other when opened, but when closed the diver extension balances both sides.

I bought a Marinemaster adjustable clasp for mine and the fit is great. Not only does it get rid of the fold-out dive extension, but the ratcheting extension in the MM clasp acts like on-the-fly micro adjust!
