Swelling wrists!

I have found that my wrist changes size by a substantial amount throughout the day. That combined with pain when watches shake around too much has led me to LOVE on the fly adjustment! Bracelets are basically determined by the manufacturer but straps have a little more flexibility. I have found Formex clasps to be the best/only option on the market. Anybody know of others?

Formex invented this deployant so I don’t think there are others. I’m with you, I absolutely love it to the point I may buy a few spare deployants for other watches.

I use Crafter Blue FKM straps because of the way they have a flat wide tang on the buckle, it allows for closer adjustments than a regular round tang. This lets you keep it snug, pretty much regardless of your wrist size you can get a comfortable fit. Also I have pretty small wrist and the these straps allow you to adjust them to the smallest fit and still keep the excess strap looking neat and looking like a proper fit. 🌈

Longines and Montblanc also use it. It was patented by Drexel SA about 7 year ago I think. The then head of Drexel SA is the father of the head of Formex.

I like the “pinch” style straps offered on some Oris pro pilots as well as some Tag Heuer Carrera models. Painfully expensive (Oris sells them for 320ish) but having a strap that’s not limited to holes, buttons, tabs or clicks is mind altering. It’s a perfect fit all day long.

I gave up and use straps with tang buckles.

Thank you, good to know that those two are using it. I know the relationship with Drexel, but did not realize they made it for other brands. Thanks for the heads up.

Back to basics!

Ya, I find that the best watch is a comfortable watch so money well spent!

I find that bracelets that are adjusted so you have a finger, finger and a half's width of space tend to hold up pretty well to swelling, although there is a reason why my explorer homage with the glidelock clasp is my designated summer watch.

I hate myself. I wear leather in the heat so that the dye stains my skin. I let my wrist expand until the spring bars break.

I blame South African weather.

·

This might not be the best but i retrofitted some bracelets with an on the fly adjustable clasp

Artem has some straps like this one. Very expensive, around USD 200.

I find a leather strap completely overcomes this problem.

If your wrist expands leather has a natural degree of flex and stretch, especially if the strap is padded.

If you wrist shrinks leather still provides some friction which reduces the amount it slips on your wrist.

And if you're still uncomfortable you can still always move the buckle pin one hole.

Also leather is naturally compliant so it doesn't dig into flesh when tight. And it absorbs moisture so it doesn't get clammy unless you're swearing buckets.

Anyone else thought this post said smelling watches 😂

Same here - have an inflammatory disease that can have my wrists size fluctuate around 3/4” on some days. On the fly was a game changer for me and the usage of bracelets. Tons of micro-brands have begun adopting a variety of them (Nomadic, Henry Archer) and big boys like Rolex, Omega, and newer offerings from brands like Longines.

It’s going to be hard to compete moving forward without some level of on the fly adjustment…sidebar, from what I’ve heard, the adjustment system in the BB54 is top notch (see what I did there?)

The strap I am using with the formex clasp is an artem! Unfortunately their clasps do not have on the fly.

This is why I prefer NATO straps, that or a G-Shock.

That's cool. I never thought of using this on a non-Formex strap/watch. Time to start figuring out precise measurments at the clasp.

I love my adjustable bracelet watches but since most of my watches don't have them, I resort to just wearing the watch under or over the wristbone depending on how fat my wrist has gotten during the day.

I read "smelling wrists" at first and was very concerned... 🤔😬

Sadly, NATOs don’t solve for then you are between hole sizing. Yes, I know…phrasing.

I went out of my way to buy my Longines Zulu Time on leather because the deployant uses the same system as Formex. No regrets! It's really nice
