Tank Shaped Watches
Somehow, I've begun a hunt for the Tank Shaped watches. The iconic gentlemen's watch. This indeed is the epitome of what a gents watch should look like.
Personally, I think the original Cartier look is the best, but what JLC have done is outstanding. With the Reverso. Well done.

Love the Cartier Tank. It's price is most ideal for most watch enthusiasts.
While I can’t pull off neither, I totally agree both the Reverso and Tank are indeed beautiful!
I’ve had various tanks - love em. The classic steel “large” size is my favourite.
Yesterday i picked up a vario versa as one popped up on eBay at an okay price (just over £300.) Will see how it is..

For me the Tank is the perfect one. I really like the Reverso as well visually. Sadly this is one of the watches that was ruined by a person I once knew. Kind of similar to the submariner. If you know enough idiots wearing a watch it looses it's appeal.
I really think many of the more affordable alternatives are great though and have the same understated old Hollywood effect.
I honestly feel like the JLC looks much better than the Cartier. It also has a bit of modern feel to it.

Totally agree
For me JLC Reverso is a better watch from design, finish and movement aspect and is on my "long term" list to get. In general I hold JLC in high regards ( Polaris chrono is also on that list and surely prior Reverso ) and consider them horologicaly a superior brand to Cartier.
But I also borrow my girlfriends Tank from time to time and agree it is an icon on its own, just my personal preference is more towards JLC. As she explained to me in her eyes Tank is more beautiful, elegant and is vastly more significant from fashion and/or reputation point of view for all that don't know/care much about our hobby.

I do love a Tank shaped watch. I had a Tank Basculante, Reverso and Must de Cartier, but they've all left the collection now. I'll have to rectify this!

I got the Reverso quartz. Its cheaper.
Maybe you can get both the Reverso and the Tank. Quartz is cheaper to maintain.

I simply think they have positively influenced each other. Sometimes having such competition makes “the manufacturer” improve. Between these two brands…customer wins.
