Farer - British Watchmakers' Day

Farer really impressed me at British Watchmakers' Day. I've not got much experience with them. They're definitely making a name for themselves! Great proportions and amazing colour.

Tons of watches out, in every colour of the rainbow. Colour is something that admittedly we can take a while to embed in a collection. When you're spending relatively large amounts of money, a steel/black dial sports watch is the go-to for a reason. I'm sort of at the stage now though where I'm looking for that pop! Farer pack it and then some.

Lots to love with these moonphases. You've got a deep blue, salmon and light blue/teal colour. Tiffany? Maybe. More like Tiffany's cool cousin who goes to another school.

Image

The salmon is lovely, almost a copper colour against the little red date window. I preferred the deep blue. The moon stands out really nicely against that colour.

Image

Here's a shot of the movement. All in all, a pretty great package for £1495.

Image

Farer does a few watches in limited runs with Eastern Arabic numerals. I can't speak or read Arabic, but I've got family who can. Paired with the green that calls to mind that part of the world, it'd be amazing for those family and friends in the Middle East. That said, I'm not Roman and I love Roman numerals. I'm also not Breguet...maybe I should have one!

Image

BOOM! Talk about colour. This is a dual crown super compressor in fire engine red. (Truck for our friends across the pond!) If I see one of these in person, I'll know exactly what it is. Respect to anyone rocking a red this vivid on the wrist!

Image

The world timer impressed me the most. £1495 for a world timer! These come in 3 different colours, with the dial, 24 hour ring and strap all having different colour schemes applied. Check them out here.

There's a lot to be said for how differentiated these are. Usually, you'd change a dial's base colour and call it a day. There is so much attention to detail here, they're really 3 different watches rather than variations on a theme. More prominent companies have got away with far worse!

Image

Finally to close, merch. There was plenty of merch going around at British Watchmakers' Day. Farer brought hats! Genuinely something I'll use and the first wearable watch merch I've been given. (Not counting some Grand Seiko cufflinks I've yet to find an occasion for!)

Farer is making great watches for reasonable prices. They seem to sell out fairly fast, so move quickly if any of these take your fancy. One to keep on my radar next time I need a sudden burst of colour.

Lovely watches, thanks for sharing. Looking forward to seeing them in June

Farer is one of my favorite brands. They have quite a few that are on my wish list.

·

Can i ask your wrist size? I was looking at one of these watches for a long time. But it seems like it will be too big for me. I didn’t realise the watch was this big.

·

Farer has something, which is quite unique. They have managed to create a design language that is distinguish, and completely their own. This is quite an accomplishment in a world of mostly generic looking Micro Brands. They have a flair for colourful and fun watches that oozes quality at the same time. I have the Carnegie Chrono and love it for its uniqueness.

Lovely, thank you for sharing! 👍

Thx for sharing!

Just acquired my first Farer this week; the world timer Roché II. Very impressed with it I must say! Has not left my wrist for five days now :-)

Yeah sure thing! Six inches, I’ve always had super skinny wrists. Snapped them skateboarding as a teenager a few times 😂 A 36mm looks more like a 40mm on me for most people!

You’ve put that really well! A new brand with genuinely original design language. They really do stand out on their own.

I say new, relatively speaking compared to the old big names.

I had no idea on the lume front! That’s even cooler. Love how they’ve colour matched the rotor for each version too.

Just in case it reassures you, here’s some context!

This is 42mm with a 47mm lug to lug.

This is 37mm.

40mm.

29mm

I think the cushion cases look bigger than they are from above, they’re 40mm. The lugs do curve round your wrist quite a bit. They never felt uncomfortable or top heavy to me the way my Christopher Ward would.

Definitely try one on if you can, but if you’ve an average sized wrist you’ll be fine. If you’d have to order one first and potentially return it (not available locally for example), I’d say it’s no bigger than a Submariner or Seamaster on the wrist if you can get one of those to try on.

Excellent post!

Been collecting Farer for quite a while now...great watch brand.

Here's what I've added to the collection, so far,...

Wow! That first chronograph is amazing, love the strap/seconds hand combo.

Nothing they make can be described as boring. Farer is like the guy with the loud shirt who gets up to dance first at a party. Bold, confident and doesn’t take themselves too seriously 👌

Thanks!

That was my first Farer...it's called the Cobb. I swapped it onto a yellow rally strap to bring out the yellow chronograph hand and make the dial pop.

Here are the wrist shots with the original blue strap and alternate brown strap...

Personally I think the yellow wins 😉

I could have sworn that was OEM. You’re a stylish man my friend!

Hey thank you so much. Not only did your reply help me with the farer, your photo also gave a lot of extra context as to how some other watches might look on my wrist. I think my wrist is very similar to yours, 6.3” so your ref photos were extremely helpful. Thank you so much 👍

Thanks for the overview! Sounds like a great event. I've met a bunch of the #farer team at Windup Watch Fair NYC. Great people, and as you say, just a fantastic array of watches with amazing design. I've had the Farer Lander IV for a while:

Image

As they said when I was telling team Farer how much I enjoy it, they told me, "thanks! Yeah, that one is pretty much the gateway drug for people." 😁

That GMT does sound like a great gateway. I’d love to pick up the 36mm! I’ve not got a GMT yet, and this would conquer the usual sizing complaint I have 😄

I love the colors. Mine is the 38mm, but the 36 looks like they managed the proportions perfectly. I'm confident you'll like it.
