The Seiko SARG009 is a blast from the relatively recent past that remains a versatile and functional timepiece.
The sword hands of the Seiko SARG009 play a crucial role in enhancing the legibility of the watch. Their distinct shape, with a broad base and pointed tips, creates a clear contrast against the dial background. The hand choice reminds me of the Omega Seamaster 2254.50. This design choice facilitates quick and accurate time reading, even at a glance.
Adding to its uniqueness, the SARG009 being a Japanese domestic market (JDM) model adds an extra layer of exclusivity for watch enthusiasts, coupled with the fact that the watch is now long discontinued. However, even with the watch being discontinued, the second hand market offers relatively reasonably prices starting in the $500s.
The watch's toolish versatility is reminiscent of the iconic Rolex Explorer. Certainly the watch does not have finishing on par with the Rolex Explorer, but from a tool perspective, it checks the box. In my mind, the simple yet functional dial layout, evokes the spirit of a utilitarian tool watch.
The SARG009 is adaptable to various settings, and its ability to seamlessly transition between different contexts adds to its charm and practicality.

This particular strap was purchased on Amazon from HNS straps. I've found similar straps from Google searches using keywords: "Wave pattern, nato, strap and sashiko."
