Heirloom Watch - any personal story to share?

Hello folks, I have been here for like a month and feel like I want to share my watch journey a bit.

The story I want to share with you guys is this watch - the Omega Seamaster Cosmic 2000.

I do not have any detail about this watch but it has been sitting in my Dad's desk for like 40+ years due to crystal broken and my dad did not know what to do with it.

My dad gave me this as he saw me interest in watches. The watch come in with a rusty hands and dust - the movement does not work at first, but it started to tick again once I wind it. I felt overjoyed by this and sent it to a local vintage watchmaker in hope that I can restore this and give it back to my dad who was struggle with cancer at that time.

The watch maker said he would need to replace the crystal, overhaul its movement and replace the hands - and it took a few months to do so.

And here it is

The watch came in good shape. The bracelet is so comfortable to wear - in fact, I have changed my mind over bracelet because of this watch. Unfortunately it arrived 2 months late, my father has passed away - so I wore this watch in his funeral and told him that I will cherish this watch with full of heart.

And I truly cherish this watch because it is the only item I took as an heirloom - it is the only thing I have that represent my loving father who dedicated himself for his family.

And here it is, this is me with a story of my most precious watch in my collection. How about you guys, do you have any emotional attached watch story to share? Thanks you guys who read until the end 😉😉

Wonderful story and watch, great memory of your father. We have a Hamilton that was gifted to her father by her great-grandfather when her father returned from WWII. It’s running well after a full service. So glad you resurrected your Omega!

This Omega Flightmaster (Circa 70s) is special because it was my father’s watch.  Fortunately, he’s still around and he gave this to me over 10 years ago. Needless to say, this watch will end up going to my son when the time is right.

·

Beautiful watch, made even more so by the relationship between father & son.

May it be as faithful & reliable as your father.

That was an amazing story! Great to see such a meaningful connection.

The story of own my Omega (mid-70s Geneve) is pretty similar, my grandfather got it as a gift from his company and wore it for many decades. He would always give it a vigorous shake in the mornings to wind it up, so we'd hear him coming long before he reached the bottom of the stairs 😂. Sadly he passed away a year ago and it has now come to my possession, and I'm hoping to  have it serviced and cleaned up by a watchmaker soon. Like your own watch, mine's got a lot of sentimental value attached to it and I hope to take care of it as well as my grandfather did.

Glad we have a common story with you ,watch bro. May your watch be able to serviced without any major issues.

It is a true charm hearing jiggle sound from the bracelet 😂😂

Ngl as he got older he'd jiggle it so rapidly it started to wear down the sides of the bracelet links, hahaha. I want to keep the bracelet for obvious reasons, but I'm looking for a suitable black leather strap for my own wearing so I don't pull hairs... sadly, finding custom straps for an integrated-bracelet Omega isn't easy.

·

Very cool.  I don't think you are going to see too many of those floating around.  I think you did well by restoring it, time to enjoy!

It is what I concern with mine too. I wish I can hold on to this jiggle bracelet as long as possible.

And maybe only a custom strap can fit with your integrated bracelet watch 😬😬😬

I totally can feel you 😊

I a in different prospective you can consider that Watch as a grail watch.

It’s full of joy, emotion, history, it’s Klassik, timeless, stylish as modern integrated models and it has very respected brand name in the dial!

Any plans for something new for your collection that steals your omega a bit wrist time 😁?

Due to the lack of water resistance, I try to avoid wearing the watch in summer and raining season.

And yes, I purchased this Seiko Sharp Edge in white as a representative to wear as a daily wear watch. 😁😁

·

Totally understandable….

The Seiko is a cool choice for the summer. The dial pattern makes it special when you look at it a second time 😊👌
