It’s ”About time” to move focus from Moonswatch

Tired of queing for a Moonswatch, or reading about it? Read a book.

Interested in history and/or horology? Read ”About time”, by David Rooney.

This is a gem covering the history of timekeeping in 12 chapter. It’s not about watches, it’s about clocks or rather the impact they had in timekeeping and how that affected our society. Not surprisingly it has been the rulers, the leadership, the church, the factory owners that felt the need to control the public by timekeeping. There is a reason why Gerald Genta stated ”I hate watches. These are the antithesis of liberty”.

This is of course not a complete coverage of the history of timekeeping but an interesting sample of progress. One of the more surprising findings when it comes to the need for accurate timekeeping in daily life; the daytraders.

So, in short, this is an entertaining book. Not about watches, but about historical impact of measuring time.

Thanks for the tip!  I could have save a few $ by getting a digital copy, but this seems like something to share in the old fashioned way.  Blackwell's in UK will ship it to me in the US for less than AMZN.  Looking forward to reading it soon.
