Three Watch Collection From Around the World

3 watches, 3 countries, which watches would you choose?

For me, I've always loved the idea of having a 3 watch collection showcasing the different styles from around the world and wanted to build a hypothetical collection around this idea.

For a bit more fun I wanted to build the collection around a 'theme', which I can anchor the collection back to. I love the ocean, either above it sailing, or under it diving. I wanted this collection to reflect my passion for all things nautical.

Switzerland - Rolex Submariner | No ocean collection would be complete without a dive watch and there is none more iconic than the Sub. I chose the Hulk because I love the sunburst green dial and the unique flare it gives to an otherwise reasonably safe and standard choice in the LN model. The Sub is also iconically Rolex, iconically Swiss, making it the perfect choice for Swiss representation.

Japan - GS Lake Suwa | This has to be the most beautiful dial I've ever seen. The way the textured dial captures the ripples of the wind across the surface of the water just takes me back to days spent looking out across the sea (despite the original design being reminiscent of a freshwater lake). Grand Seiko also represents the pinnacle of Japanese horology and with their unique spring drive movement, I see no better choice than the Lake Suwa to represent Japan.

Germany - GO PanoMaticLunar | Whilst the other two watches came quickly, finding a German watch to round out this collection was a bit challenging. I knew it had to be a dress watch (as no 3 watch collection is complete without one) and to tie it back to the tides, I eventually settled on a moonphase watch. The PanoMaticLunar was chosen because of its distinctly German design. I love the asymmetry, which you would never find on a Swiss or Japanese watch. The movement is also absolutely stunning with the hand engraved balance bridge. As such, the PanoMaticLunar was the perfect fit to round out this collection.

Would love to see how others would build a 'three watch collection from around the world'. Which watches are you choosing?

I would maybe do a blue dial collection. Show the different philosophies in how this is executed:

Just picking from my collection and because I’m a Swedish and UK citizen I’d go with:

My Clemence Watches Photic Diver

Image

As my British dive watch that is also discrete enough to wear easily to work.

My E. C. Andersson Calypso II my Swedish Sports watch.

And my Certina DS80 for my dress watch

As we should have a dress watch and I also feel a Swiss mechanical should be in the mix.

Orient Bambino small seconds for some affordable dress watch class (and to be able to pick something other than GS).

Squale 1521 on rubber from Italy/France because... Well look at it!

And finally the Hamilton Khaki on an army strap for a US contribution when I need to go deep into enemy territory 😁

These are my 3 picks;

France: Yema Superman 500 Diver

Switzerland (or USA): Hamilton Khaki Automatic 38mm

Japan: Seiko SARX029 Urushi Dial

I feel like its a well rounded collection which has a watch for every scenario (Casual/Field, Diver, Dress) and is still on the reasonably priced side as far as a collection goes.
