My affordable three watch (sub)collection

If you had to make a three watch collection what composition or specific watches would you go for?

I finally rounded out my little three watch collection (Diver, Flieger, Dress) with a Laco Augsburg 39 gifted to me for my 30th birthday by my SO. Totally in love with the lume on it and as always with a new watch it has become my daily driver.

If I had to limit it to 3 it would be a diver, a dress or dressy watch, and either a chronograph or a gmt depending on my lifestyle. Realistically I would actually go with a 5 watch collection with the aforementioned dress, diver, gmt/traveler, chronograph, and add in a gshock or equivalent. Covers all bases and scenarios and anything beyond that can be collecting whatever I like simply for fun.

My $0.02 😊

From what I learned about my tastes in my limited experience as a collector, I'd go with a digital, a dressable chronograph and a dressable field watch. These are my three favorite types of watches.

In terms of specific watches I own, I'd go with:

  • G-Shock DW-5600

  • Timex Expedition North Field Mechanical

  • Pagani Moonwatch

These are three very nice watches by the way! Happy belated birthday!

Yeah i normally lean more to the dressy side as well and would argue that the Glycine diver is a very dressy diver, but i also just love the minimalistic and very legible design of the Laco wich is just a much more tool-ish watch.

A digital is a nice rugged, do everything addition to the collection 👍

My three would be my Citizen Promaster with E168 Eco-Drive movement (secretly that would be my apocalypse/shit hits the fan watch), at least one automatic diver, so that would be my Steeldive SD1996 SKX homage and finally, a dress watch for fancy stuff, which is my Tissot PR100 Powermatic 80 on a leather strap with white stitching.

I like your choices, but am not a dress watch guy (although that Presage is beautiful). I went with a budget 6 watch collection - Seiko SSB045 chrono (air? drive?), Invicta 1953 and Casio Duro (diver and beater diver), Timex MK1 mech and Victorinox ST1000 (field and beater field), and G-Shock M5610 (digital).

If I had to pare back to 3, it would be Seiko, Invicta, and G-Shock, as they are the toughest of the non-beaters.

This is always tough. Here is what I would do right now to not get in any deeper financially:

Keep my BB58

Keep my Sinn 256Ty

Get a Nomos Orion 33

I think I would be just fine with these!

That green Seiko looks incredible in the photo.

I think these three could meet every activity, event or occasion.

Pretty damn good affordable 3 watch collection!

Nice choices, i've been eying a Junghans Meister small seconds for a dress piece myself and a GMT will most likely also join the collection at some point 😉😉

I love the idea of a beater and bought the Glycine as the perfect middle ground between fancy and beater. Although it isn't cheap it is quite beefy with sapphire and 300m WR so i dont have to baby it (i probably do any way, but thats just me) 😉👍

Solid collection man!😁🔥 Nomos is a class choice as well, but i might go for the Club sport if i had to choose. a little more sporty but still plenty dressy 😁 But for a classic dress piece the Orion is very nice 😁

Yeah i think you are pretty well covered there 😍 IMO that Blancpain could cover all occasions on its own though 😁👍

I think the Club is one of the best deals in all of watchmaking. The clubs all wear a bit larger on me due to the lugs, but it’s a great piece and could also make a mean one-watch collection.

I agree. Never mind beach to boardroom, this Blancpain can be Scuba to Gala.

I’ve never been able to look at the mojito without putting mine on! This is a super solid 3 watch collection.

Oh, my. That Presage dial. The meme where the boyfriend looks back as someone passes by? That Presage is the girl walking away.
