Did anyone keep their black bay GMT?

Hey everyone!

I’ve long thought of buying the black bay GMT, but it just hasn’t happened for various reasons.

I wondered if anyone has one and has kept it for a long time? I get the impression people move them on more often than not. I may be completely wrong though!

Would love to hear from some BB GMT owners!

Thanks I’m advance!

I bought mine as a belated 35th birthday present for myself. I’ve had it since February ‘22 and have no plans of letting it go. I didn’t buy it because of the hype….I bought it because I liked the watch itself. I like the fact that it’s more or less an old style GMT Master II without the cyclops and with better WR. The biggest complaints people seem to have with it don’t bother me — while, yes, it could be thinner, I’ve never found it to be overly thick…it’s no worse than any automatic chronograph in that way, and I don’t have anything else that has the classic Rolex style dial, so, it’s not going anywhere anytime soon.

That’s great to hear. I think you’re right, for me the 16710 is the perfect GMT, but the BB GMT has a lot of elements that other GMT watches don’t, in particular I love the aluminium bezel and obviously the flyer style GMT.

Is that natural ghosting on the bezel of yours? Or is it just the light? Looks pretty cool!

I was so close to buy one.. but all the issues with the date, stoped me from buying it.. but I think it's a really good looking watch

It's just the light -- I'm wearing mine today, you can see a pic of it on #wruw

Good to know! Look out for a newer one I guess is the solution for me

I’ve had mine since October 2021 and have thought several times whether I should sell it especially after I got my Explorer 2. Every time I look at it however I just start admiring it. I have always loved the look of the aluminum bezel Rolex Pepsi but don’t wanna spend $10k on a vintage watch so this does it for me. In fact I prefer the darker shades on the BB GMT more. Also I have mine on leather and I wear it all the time when traveling. It’s my time zone beater so to say.

Great reason to buy one and glad to hear you’re enjoying it. I know it’s chunky, but I’ve got a 7” wrist, so I seem to be able to wear most watches ok

Ah I see yeah! Clearly a GMT lover!

You’re bang on with the aluminium bezel, it really makes a good Pepsi GMT imo! Glad to hear you’re still enjoying it, thank you!

I'm currently replying wearing mine 😄. I think it is elegant in its colors and design but also tool like with its weight and thick case sides. It's a great watch.

Ah I see yeah! Clearly a GMT lover!

By far my favorite complication, and one that I find to be incredibly useful.

·

I don't own one but I remember when they were first released, there was a well-known issue regarding the date wheel not turning properly; it was only happening on their GMT movement. I think it has long since been fixed, but that could explain why some people moved on rather quickly if they got a defective model.

·

My watch friend whom I met on a plane to Vegas while wearing my Lorier Hyperion commented on my watch and I noticed he was wearing a BBGMT, he dailies it and loves it! We traded for a week and I wore it daily, the weight and thickness and rivets disappeared after a couple days and it was a great experience. He still loves it and never had the date issue.

I had one for a couple of years. Enjoyed the date-wheel saga - twice! Eventually they gave me a while new watch and solved the problem. By that point I was pretty done with it so I sold it.

I liked it, but it was quite a chonk.

I now have a Pelagos with similar dimensions, but much more wearable day to day due to the Titanium case.

I really miss a proper GMT though..

It’s a shame that date issue soured the experience. Ended up with a killer watch though! So not all bad 😂

I've had mine for the last three years and plan to keep it

I had the same worry but got mine right after they extended the warranty to 5 years and reports were that they fixed the date issue. No problems with mine and I still love it (but like many, I love the more authentic to the original smaller markers and aluminum bezel insert).

Also, with respect to people getting tired of it. Some may be true but a lot of us get tired with most of our watches and cycle through them (sickness). Another issue is that some buy this one but really want the Rolex Pepsi and at the end of the day the Tudor doesn't quite scratch that itch. If this is you, you may reconsider though it is unlikely that you will get a Pepsi anytime soon unless you have a good relationship with your AD.

Good luck.

Glad we’ve got another regular wearer! I do agree the aluminium bezel and smaller markers are definitely a selling point.

I cycle through watches like crazy, but I’m trying to find a good blend under a certain price cap. I’m a dream world I’d go for the 16710 to be honest. I’m not a fan of the new super case or ceramic bezels really.

A lot to consider, but the intention would be that the BB GMT would be the cornerstone and get most of the wear, which is why I reached out to all you legends! 💪

·

Bought mine used in november 2022...because of the date wheel issue I looked for a used one that was from 2021 at the earliest......got one from july 2021 and never had a date wheel problem.

It wears perfect on my 7 inch wrist, not too big at all...and I really like the vintage vibes it has like no crown guards and the aluminum bezel insert.

Last june I wore it for 3 weeks on a road trip in the USA...here I am wearing it on a Bayou swamp tour near New Orleans.

But despite the many positive comments here....you will still have to find out yourself if it is a watch for you...and that, in my opinion, you can only find out if you wear it for a certain period of time before you know if it is a keeper or....if it has to go.

Cheers.

Clearly I’ve misjudged the love for the BB GMT, I can’t say I’m disappointed by that fact though, I was really hoping that was the case!

Find an AD or a meet up and try one on. Only way to know if it will truly haunt your dreams. 👻

·

I was eyeballing it for a long time, but was turned off by the date wheel issue. Eventually, when they fixed it, I was fortunate to get an allocation for the Rolex BLRO.

I also looked to the newest version, but don't feel its worth it for another pepsi version but with a white dial.

·

I bought my son one for his 21st birthday and inscribed it on the back with his age, the date, the year and the century: 21 21 21 21. He wears it all the time!

·

Yep, kept it for 3 years then my taste changed to smaller cases so I traded it for a BB Pro

I bought my BB GMT knowing the date wheel function was flawed right from the factory but it was repaired on warranty and I will probably never sell it, mostly because I tend to keep my watches. I hope Tudor launches some interesting watch because the brand is feeling passe

·

I watched many of the awesome videos hyping up the BB GMT and got sucked into it. So I did end up buying one in December of 2021, and still have it as of now. I have thought about moving it on and trying something else just for fun, but I'll probably just keep it for a long time. It's a bit heavy for me on the bracelet, but I have it on wrist right now as I type this, on its bracelet. 🙂

·

It’s a beautiful watch no doubt, and the BB GMT was my first ever Tudor watch. I do however have been thinking of selling it as I want to have a smaller sized and thinner watch collection. Have a couple of GMT watches that fit my preferences that I’m eyeing at the moment but I definitely wouldnt have truly appreciated the beauty of GMT watches (and Tudor watches!) had I not owned the BB GMT Pepsi

The new opeline ?

·

I purchased mine when it was released. I did have the strange date issue, but was resolved quickly and I haven't had an issue since. It keeps great time. I wear it as my travel/vacation watch. I swim in it and wear it just like a diver. I did put it on a Forstner Jubilee after first buying the Uncle Seiko bracket. The Forstner clasp is way better. I own the Rolex GMT Pepsi, but find wearing the Tudor more enjoyable because I don't have to worry about it. The new dial color is interesting, and may be an addition to my collection.

Sold mine to buy a non-watch related stuff. I had date issue - fixed with no repeating problem, had tudor strap and bracelet - loved the quality of both, dial/bezel - gorgeous, never been bothered by its thickness.... But its weight - oh boy was it heavy...! Weight was the main reason for me to let it go (I have chronic wrist pain and am sensitive to its weight). But I still miss it. If you can handle the weight, 100% a keeper.

Very few words I can express regarding your questions about the GMT Tudor Pepsi. You just will enjoy for ever! That’s all I can say.
